I left my 8lb maul sitting outside this summer. Fell over into grass and weeds. Handle seems to be okay except for some discoloration. I had put a mixture of BLO and turpentine on it. I stuck the head in a block of wood and let the handle dry several days. What should I do now? Not looking for show quality just protection. If I get some good grain definition, that would be good but mostly looking for moisture proofing.
BLO (boiled linseed oil for those who don't know) rubbed in with some fine wire-wool is all that I would do.
I've heard for new wooden items, to use BLO - Once a day for a week Once a week for a month Once a month for a year Your mileage may vary.
