I sniffed out a bunch of free Lodgepole Pine today. Some friends of some friends had several standing dead Lodgepoles taken down a couple of days ago. I stopped and grabbed a truckload of wood today. The elevation of this scrounge was 9,989 feet. This was a really cool remote area. I plan to go back with my trailer and get the rest next week. There are maybe 10 big stacks of 4 foot logs.

These sections are perfect size. I just have to cut them in half, then split them. Lodgepole is my favorite pine. It burns hot and clean. Nothing splits easier than Lodgepole too. You just give Lodgepole a dirty look and it will split into quarters.

Started snowing right as I finished loading my truck. I also spooked a big black bear when I was walking through the woods, checking the stacks out. Snowing hard at the house now and 30F outside. I'm burning some nice big Douglass Fir splits. Fun day! 5628F1A2-C0CB-4243-9F88-82AEC5CEC3F9.jpeg EB196E0E-2281-4648-9DD4-3CD0A51D70B2.jpeg 408AC78B-AB71-45D5-A44E-21E8FD0BD04D.jpeg 2796E7C7-91BA-4F23-919F-06264098408C.jpeg BAF479B2-A6C4-4432-99AC-01AD3C920E92.jpeg 200C2BA0-9D10-47E6-A184-3B175DBCC66B_1_201_a.jpeg EC184310-E26A-4BCC-82E5-67B1FFC5EDCB_1_201_a.jpeg 04235DC4-0807-42C1-8762-0A42E43F857B_1_201_a.jpeg

Yes they are, too fast for pictures when you bump into them at close range

I can never seem to get my phone out in time, Sandhillbilly

Here’s the best I could do when I saw a massive black bear in my field a month ago:rofl:  CC136769-00CD-44E6-9F5F-0C0E4AE2DED4.jpeg

Nice score of logs! The like wasn't for the white stuff though. I'm definitely not quite ready for that.

When we hunted eastern WA we used to bring back all the leftover Lodge Pole that we cut for the wall tent stove and we cut a lot. We used to use it for our traditional "First Fire". We loved the smell of the smoke and it burned pretty well for those of us used to burning softwoods. Looks like a nice score there Cash Larue !

Hey Cash congrats on the lodge pole. You are right it is some good burning pine. Up here in Wyo we are starting to get some cold weather and I am burning the ugly pile first which consist of just about everything I can find out here. Once again congrats on the lodge pole.

I’m always impressed with your scrounging skills up there. I pass up a lot more wood than I grab. Sometimes I even think to myself…Mag Craft wouldn’t pass up those free roadside rounds! Quit being lazy, Cash!

I would imagine at 10,000 feet you got pretty winded loading that into your truck?
    Nice looking wood.

Someday I hope to live where there’s a chance of looking out the window and seeing a bear. Probably never happen but I can hope…
