-10c/14f right now. I had some coals left over from last night so I threw in 2 doug fir splits and one larch. Its a frosty morning here. I noticed the northern lights late last night. I dont get to see it that often so it was kinda neat! NVhunter thats pretty. Is it unusual to get snow this time of year for you?
Sean we'll usually see one storm bring snow in October but usually our snow comes in November and December. Being a desert state my area still averages 24 inches a winter... I know it's not much compared to other places but we do get some snow at least...
Well, you have more snow on the ground than I do at the moment! It actually snowed a bit the other day but it didnt stick around.
I can quit wearing shorts this weekend! Looking better here. Red oak, white oak & hickory standing by. Mike in Okla
It’s finally starting to cool off here but not quite time to light the stove yet. With any luck maybe around Halloween or the first week of November. I don’t usually start a fire unless daytime highs are in the upper 40s. I’ve got the oil truck coming with 150 gallons tomorrow
Definitely. The prices have gone up since last week and are only projected to go up further from here. I should've had the tank topped off months ago but you know how that goes...
Last winter we had a few days well below zero (-14 F) and I managed to keep the house warm with just the stove. Heater never kicked on once all winter. $$$. Mike in Okla
Hello all and hope you’re well, it still hasn’t got quite cold enough for a fire here which is unusual for us. Temps are getting up to 60f in the day.
First night we have had that broke into the 30's. 36* this AM. Burning Doug Fir quartered from 14" logs. Burns hot but not a lot of staying power from these smaller pieces.
Was low 60's & rain/drizzle here all day. I decided it might be a good day test the backup/kicker stove I just put in. Turns out that was a bad idea. It makes way more heat for way longer than I anticipated. Finally shut the shop doors at 7:30 & it's still 78. Oh well, the stove will certainly do the job I bought it for.
My parents just converted their house to propane from an oil heating system. They sold their left over oil to their neighbor for $2.00 a gallon. Guy got a heck of a deal, getting 500 gallons if I recall at that price from them.
25° F at the house currently. Got around another 2" of snow last evening and night. Fkws in the stove. 72 in the house. Stove just putting along. Gotta go plow a neighbor out this morning first thing. Somehow he totalled his pickup and is driving an interim rent-a-car. An actual Car. He texted me yesterday. I wanted to do it when I got home from work then wood cutting. BUT. It's been a good while since I burned 4 tanks thru a sharp 70+ cc powersaw. In about 2 1/2 hours. I might have been a bit tired.
26* and fresh 5-6” Spruce in the OWB. Used the ax for a small pile that was not worth the effort of getting the splitter out. Weather is to nice to use wood out of the shed.
63 outside 72 inside windows and doors open, no fire this year so far. Fall weather is coming and Winter will get here no doubt about it
