I finally had to buy a new gas can for my chainsaw and I really dislike the newer safety cans. any recommendations for a good 2-2.5 gas can that pours easy? I’m about to drop a match in the one I just bought.
I can totally agree with you about trashing the new cans! Neighbor next door had a garage sale and I snagged these 3 cans for free. They work great. Single can with 2 spouts is for a chainsaw. One spout for gas the other for bar oil. Works ok. Anymore, since I went to Trufuel, I bought a spout for the can and use it. Sold near the fuel. Really like this combo! If you mix your own fuel, try a garage sale and pick up an older, vented can like one of the first three. You should be happy with that!
I feel the pain. I have been hoarding older cans and also putting aftermarket spouts on some new ones. Another trick is to add a vent hole. I usually just plug the vent with a washered roofing screw, but I have seen where a tire valve stem has been gutted and installed. Then you have an easy screw on cap to cover the vent. Each new gas can I see has an even dumber and less user friendly way to prevent spills. I routinely need to empty a couple of fives into a piece of equipment, so the slow pourers and hold the button cans are no bueno.
Wait, no one mentioned No Spill Jill yet? NO-SPILL INC. | Lenexa, KS 66215 I use the the 1.25 and 5 gallon cans.
Here in Canada it is a little tough to get the No Spill cans (I bought mine while vacationing south of the border) but thankfully after a few aggravating years of ventless cans, they brought vented gas cans back to Canada. See if you can find Scepter cans where you are. Scepter | Consumer Product
I got a new one for the splitter gas and hate them too. On the lookout for some older ones. My chain saw one is the older user friendly type!
I've had this one for a couple years now and really like it.Husqvarna Combi Oil and Fuel Can 580 75 42-01 It has slick push in ends on it that stops the flow when the tanks are full.
Buy you a replacement spout. It has a snap in air vent and old style filler spout. Problem is they know you want them and charge almost what a whole gas can costs for the kit .
Or like I do and buy a bag full of snap in vents from eBay for like $10. They eventually have the cover retainer break off and you eventually loose the snap cover. Just pop it out and a new one in, after all you bought like 20 of them!! they take like a 3/8 hole you need to drill and snap the vent in. It says on the paper the drill size to use.
Great idea with the valve stem for the vent. Just pull the valve out and you're good. I inherited a 2 gallon plastic can like metalcuttr posted. It's my saw/ weed whacker gas can, except the vent was broken. So I bought an ez pour kit. It works, but the cap for the vent isn't super secure. It can pop off just from temp swings so I've been putting a bungie cord over that when traveling anywhere with it. I like the nozzle on that one a lot though, it's better than the original. That Husqvarna one looks really nice, but $$$. I do have my dad's fuel and tool kit that's up north that I'll need to retrieve when I get the mtd log splitter from up north 2 weekend from now. Like this... Tools and a quart or so of bar oil go underneath These I see are going for big $$$$.
I have 2 of the newer style POS gas cans and 2 yellow ones for diesel. I added vents near the handles in the form of a short valve stem with the core removed. They pour much faster now. The rubber valve stem reacts with the fuels, so it has a life of only a couple of years or so, but they're cheap and easy to replace. I've also picked up a couple of the battery powered pumps, one for gas and one for the diesel. Saves me from having to lift a full 5 gallon can to pour it in the tractor
I have the 5 gallon version of these. I have 4 of them. Plus a 1 gallon. Nato spec. Steel. Heavy for sure but stable. And they don't leak. This is a 2.6 gallon since that's what you asked for.
