Just came across this ad on FBook marketplace.

“Bought this in March used it to split wood at my house, left it outside for a few months and it won't start, doesn't run on starting fluid, I don't have time to work on it, but it's brand new”.

I’m most likely going to keep it outside too. Should that be a problem? …or a simple fix?

Bad coil? Muffler full of water? Shouldn’t it be under warranty?

I would start with operator error as problem.
Then go to spark and fuel.
Should be easy to get running.

If it sat outside for that long it's very possible the air filter is saturated with water. If it pulls over & has compression I'd offer $600.00. You can buy a brand new one here for $ 999.99. I doubt it needs much to get it going, but why pay top dollar for a machine that doesn't run.

Looks like the cost of this one new is $1500. I reached out to the seller. Waiting to hear back.

I would be willing to bet its something stupid, like a fouled plug...or something equally trivial...

Yep, & if they're that much new I'd grab it for sure!

If you can get it cheap then whats the worse case ; you go to Harbor Fright and pick up a Predator Motor ? Even if you had to that you are still ahead of the game.

Maybe low on oil and low oil sensor won't let it start. Try unplugging it and then try it.
If it sat outside maybe the mice decided to build a nest under the cover and chewed some wires while in there. Would NOT be the first time I have seen that.

My first thought is a gunked up carb from having old gas in it.

My dirty hands splitter was a real b*^#h to start the first time after I got it and the next couple times after. Starts great now. Never did really figure out why. Another guy I know had the same problem with his when he got it.

I have the same splitter. Left it out for a few weeks, would not start. Just kept cranking it and finally it fired and water started shooting out the muffler.

P.S. I can’t believe the price is $1500. 3 years ago it was $900 (and they had a 20% coupon) on top of that

Get it, give it the once over. Just as everyone previous has suggested, I would start with new gas, then oil level, pull the muffler & air filter then pull the plug & check for spark then turn on the switch & fuel lever, choke it & pull away or better yet have your kids pull away or a neighbor kid, nieces, nephews, you get my drift.

Tearing into the carb would be my next thing if you can’t get it to fire up.

    Goodluck.

I looked at the same splitter last year around Black Friday. Regular price was $999 (+ extra 10% off for BF), today it's $1299 for the same model. I wouldn't give more than $700 but I'd take it in a heartbeat for that money. Good luck!

Check the oil. It has a low oil cut-off switch. Just unplug the cut-off switch and give it a try.

Whoops. I see that was mentioned.:emb:

It doesn't really hurt them. I keep mine covered with rubber roofing.

I'd drain the carb too...might be all skunked up in there...it goes bad quicker than what's in the tank (due to smaller volume)
