Freebies: My buddy had a few pallets he wanted to get rid of so I obliged him by lessening his pile : Stack on the front are mine, all hardwood pallets also with double center runners. The back stack I dropped off at the machine shop so they can ship out parts on them. Delivery: I called 2–3 weeks ago to check on the oil sale at the local MFA but they weren’t having one this fall, salesman told me prices had jumped twice already & was expecting another increase so I ordered another 55 gallon drum of b/c oil for delivery whenever they had time. He called yesterday & said they don’t offer 55gallon drums anymore due to lack of interest in that size but he would sell me a pallet of cases for the same price 60 gal. vs 55gal. He showed up today.
Thats a lot of bar oil! How long will that last you? I havent bought any in a while and am now wondering what current price per gallon is.
I don’t process anywhere near the amount of firewood you do. Probably around 20cord, plus fence posts, general fence line & field cleanup. My dad & brother use it in the chain oilers on their balers also. I just don’t see anything like this going down in price over the next few years. I would hope it will last me 3-5 years, its not going to go bad. If they have an oil sale in the spring I will check the prices then also, I will buy another pallet if I can get it delivered for around $5.50 gallon, since I don’t frequent Tractor Supply (40 miles) Menards/Home Depot (80 miles) or such places its worth it to me buy it local & have it delivered. Menards is around $6.50gal. for Mystic, TS starts at $10 gal. plus taxes at either. I used to buy NAPA but it’s over $12 gal now. I see Stihl oil on fleabay for up to $50 gal. Maybe I should be selling some of it.
Buying in bulk. I like it. Bar oil, if I were a betting man, ain't gonna get cheaper in 5 years. I only have 3 gallons on hand atm but I don't cut that much. That will last you a long time. Excellent.
