It's a village and there is no HOA. But there are noise pollution provisions in the village code. The houses here definitely are pretty packed although not quite as packed as NYC itself.

People from NYC come to my house and think I live in the wilderness. Lmfao.

No gaskets on the carb. Just the inner and outer metal boot rings

So what's that other gasket for? A different carb?

Nice! Just to be clear I was befuddled by the missing 4th screw hole in the cover for my 028, not my 034 Super. The 034 Super holes look just like yours I think.

Nice. Thank you very much. I do indeed have the Zama carb. And guess what? There it is on page 61 of the service manual I just linked. :headbang::doh:

I should have checked that first. Thanks.

I definitely did not have a heat shield between the cylinder and the muffler. I think that's only for the 036. I know the jugs are different and perhaps that's why there's a spacer there.

My front most part of my muffler looks like the one near #12.

Muffler before, cleaned, painted and installed.

I searched and searched and could not find the spark arrestor. Ordered a new one. :headbang:

Well today was indeed a beautiful day. Got up early, picked up 5 quarts (cleaned them out!) at the local dealer of Motomix. Filled up the tank, checked for leaks, and then tried to start it.

Hiccuped a little at first, stalled a few times, and then after the fuel finally flowed it idled and didn't die right away. I dawdled around with the idle screw a little bit. You guys weren't kidding when you said this thing is SENSITIVE to minor adjustments. I didn't even bother adjusting the H and L screws until I could get a tachometer reading.

I have the DTI-20K and it read about 2300-2600 at idle and at full throttle it reached 12,600 which I think is perfect since the max rpm is 13,000.

It was leaking a bit of oil at first. It kind of looked like it had some 2-stroke oil in there from me oiling up the pump (perhaps a bit too liberally) and the oil was definitely not as viscous as it usually is.

The drippage of oil stopped and now nothing leaks and the chain doesn't move during idle.

What I did notice was that the drum was spinning when I had the bar and chain removed to check the oil pump. I think that's normal, correct? Or perhaps I am in need of some clutch springs and/or a new clutch.

I have to admit I was pretty darn happy when it started the first time. Thank you so much to everyone who has provided invaluable help in this thread. I really, really appreciate it. What a fantastic learning experience. Check that off my list of things I never thought I would do in my life. Heh heh.

I put the green safety chain that was given to me along with the bar. I figured I'd try out the semi-chisel cutting edge and the extra hump on the links and see if I can notice a huge difference. I made two small test cuts on some of that crazy river birch. Chips looks great and they were really small about 8" diameter and I didn't exactly have it sitting in the most stable position.

I will make a video of cutting with it as soon as I have something legit to cut.

For now, here are a few videos of me tooling around with it.

    IT'S ALIVE!

I combined all the videos into one.

If the chain doesn’t spin at or close to idle spec, the springs are probably fine.

They can be finicky to tune depending on the carb and other factors. Most settle in at 2800ish rpm for me but that’s just a number… get the throttle response right and the L adjusted correctly and you’re fine.
The H is key… keep an eye (and ear) on that for the next few tanks. Run it WOT on occasion out of the wood and listen for the four stroking.

LordOfTheFlies, the neighbors look pretty close. How do they like that saw running?

My stacks are almost at 100% capacity. I have 1.5 stacks I can fill......but I have 21 of them.......so yeah, I'm pretty much almost done.

The big house you see is fine. They don't have a problem. It's the other house behind me that called me racial slurs and banged on my door at 1:40am and wanted to fight me. :D But the guy who did that has been banned from the property. If he steps foot here again he gets arrested.

All my other neighbors not only burn wood but they are cool. I'm friends with all of them minus the aforementioned one.

I don't run my saws or the splitter often at all and if I do I don't run it all day long.
