If a person knows how to operate a vehicle. And it has good tires . And some weight. And the snow isn't too deep. 2 wd works great.
This morning I did not chain up and made it to work fine.
But there are lots of times for us that having 4 wheel drive will get a fella out and home. Without having to shovel and chain up.
BUT it's no great trick to get a 4 wheel drive stuck like no one's business also.
Biggest thing I like about 4wd is steering in deep snow.

Yep, front end will pull & keep you going straighter if you know what you're doing. Tires are the big thing. Pizza cutters with good tread & lots of sipes.

    BINGO!

Our driver's ed vehicle was rear wheel drive (of course) with bias ply summer tires on it. The course was in winter. I had been driving for sometime by then.....

Looking ahead to the next 10 day temps, I don't see any wood being burned (or deer hunting). Calling for mid to high 70s.
I turned AC back on to help with stickiness. :headbang:

55F this AM. Up into the mid/high 70's by the weekend. Another beauty week after that. We'll take it. Wife helped me unload another trailer load of Red Oak last night. First year I will be burning this much Oak. Should be interesting. I css it in July/Aug of '18 (it was cut green and super, super wet/heavy). MC is now 16%. Trivia for you wood hoarders

Edit: Never top covered. 2 splits wide on pallets in full sun/wind. FWIW:)

20 at the house this morning.
    FKWS in the woodstove.
Wife said the roads weren't as slick this morning when she went to work at 4:30.
Supposed to warm up to the mid 30s today.

Good morning. Its been awhile since Ive been around you folks! We are having a beautiful fall in the Canadian Rockies. No snow yet but frost seems to be more of a regular thing in the AM around here. 30f/-1c right now. Ive been using the furnace most of the time still but had my second fire of the season last night. Doug fir and Larch make up my stacks for this year.

Well, our first taste of fall weather starting up. Not cold yet but cool enough to do a small fire to burn off the new paint smell on my IS after it was repainted for the "tear" repair earlier this year. Brings back memories of when I first got it and stunk up the house for the paint curing.

Supposed to be in the low 30s later in the week, so I wanted to get the paint curied before then. 20211005_074359.jpg

It’s 79 after a rain. I’m waiting in a parking lot to pick up my daughter and it feels like 90 with the windows down. I’m starting to think my first fire will be in December.

61F here & the skies finally cleared & took some humidity with it. No fire obviously, I likely won't light up till the third week in October. I think that'll be the latest ever. Mean time I'm really enjoying Cold Trigger Finger & Rope 's pics.

    Very nice view!

My view from tonight looks a little different.

    KIMG0165.JPG

Fallowing the combine back in with the last load of corn for the night. Not the best photo, was getting dark and through a dirty tractor windshield. Was low to mid 70s today.

    Upper 20s atm.
Fire killed white spruce in the stove. Closed down snug. Inside temp 70°
Coolest I saw this morning was 18° .
If it stays clear it should be cooler in the morning.

    Also from today IMG_20211005_113627214.jpg

I was wondering if we did something wrong to make you stay away.
