Quite a mess to clean up but always nice to cut it to your size. How prevalent is red oak in your area?
Sucks to see so much rot in there. Lotta useable wood though! We just need a pic of what you're cutting it up with in there somewhere.
Reds are fairly common in this area. Not as common as white oak or post oak but fairly common. Just a guess but I’d say I cut about 40% red oak, 40% white/post oak, 10% pecan and 10% ash every year. This giant came down back in the spring and I just happened to be on a scouting adventure looking for other trees to cut and came across this one.
I’ll see if I can get some staged photos with the saw included. Most likely all cuts will be made with my husqvarna 455 rancher or my husqvarna 340 on the smaller stuff.
I dont scout that often as most of my scores seem to find me. Always great when you do though. Cant wait to see it all cut and split. Wanna plenty of pics too!
Good find!! I second Brad's motion for pics. How many cord you figure you'll pull outta there? (I'm guessing 1 maybe 2 by the pics) Sca
Nice score! Man that oak split really close to the house. They are lucky it didn't take out that wall!
Making progress on this elephant of a tree! Still at least 3 loads of limb wood to haul out before tackling the trunk!!
