Surprised you didnt section the big rounds on the vertical splitter. Havent you done that in the past?
Oh yes, quite a few times. I just didnt feel like moving it over just for a few rounds. Any bigger/odd shaped will definitely get the old vertical treatment...
Had a good morning, cool temps, so we got the rounds left from Saturday split and loaded... That round on the splitter made a nice pile of splits Got almost 2 more rows done...got 2 1/2 or so more to go. Bucked and staged 2 more logs for tomorrow, the bigger rounds are 22" Still have these 2 logs left if needed to finish load of 16" firewood. I got a little slack pulling the rope to crank the huskihl XS362, the handle got my attention...talk about hand going numb for a bit...I held on tight the next time... Gonna hook up a friend at work with some cheap firepit wood, we need it gone...
I had the same experience with my XS461! It bites pretty hard if you don’t give it the respect it deserves.
Had a great week. Worked Monday and Tuesday morning, finished up a 1 cord load of 16" oak splits for delivery Carried it to the customer Wednesday morning... Had a few errands to run while we were in town, got back in time to cut, split and deliver a 1/3 cord pickup load of 18" oak splits to a neighbor We had a couple bush hogging jobs to do for a cousin and his sister across the creek Thursday morning. Got done in time to cut, split and deliver a pickup load of 24" oak in town. Front row is 7-8 yrold oak we had in the shed at the furniture shop. Back row is only couple months old. They burn in a fireplace just for the view. Also Thursday, we got a call from a former customer wanting a 1 cord load of oak delivered to Dublin GA, about 40 miles from home...with for wood and delivery. They got a cord last year, he had to make 3 trips with his F-150 to get it all......works out good for us..
My dad ran a country store for years until 1980, when he started building custom furniture. I helped him several times over the years, and the ran it for several years after his passing. We have a big Fisher stove in there, probably would take 28" splits, I have a good stash of long wood (22-24") down there if needed
I started my 7AM-7PM shift Friday-Sunday, so with the days getting shorter, we have to do what we can, how we can...the "Git'ter done" spirit... Used the tractor to sort and move a pile of oak logs to the processing area Friday. Saturday evening, we got the work lights set up.... And let the Husky55 and MS180 play on the woodpile We were done by 9:00PM. Got it bucked and staged for the splitter We only have these 5 big pieces to buck left, they are 36" long. Make 10 rounds. We'll have to see what the weather brings mext week.
Way to git er done Jeff. Not liking the shorter daylight hours myself, but we have to do what we can.
Yes sir, brother. Nice to have burn season coming up, shut off the AC, but the shorter days...... But our days aren't as short as Rope has them......thats rough up there.
It’s not the end of the world, just get used to working with a head lamp. Sure makes felling exciting when you can’t see the top.
We started on the next trailer load Monday the 4th. Got all the rounds on the ramps split and loaded. Had to take a 2 1/2 break to go cut and trim a yard. We got the 5 big logs bucked to 18", needed 8 of them to finish the load. We finished at 10:30PM, since I was off that day. Delivered it Tuesday morning, about 40 miles from home, had a nice Italian lunch in that town. Had to start night shift Tuesday night, so Wednesday morning I got this oak blow down next to the woodyard cleaned up and moved next to the splitter, it had been down about a year or so. Still some good wood, but shpuld have gotten it sooner. Thursday morning, we delivered a load of seasoned hickory to a new customer, needed something dry to take camping. They also want a load of oak a little later. They possibly have a friend that wants 2 loads also. Friday morning, we cleaned up a post oak that had fallen across our woods road on our place. Nice handling size, about 12 DBH, long logs are 9 And a customer's brother in Macon, wants a 1 cord trailer load delivered...
Sounds like you're going to busy with wood. Tis the season. I like the little bundle of skinnies! Do you normally deliver for free or is the fee based on distance? Ill do free up to a certain distance then a fee up to a maximum distance.
Yes sir, we are busy, still don't have any oak in the sheds...only cooking woods and some for us to burn. I would rather split into the truck or trailer and deliver, it can dry at their place and 2 less steps for us. It's free delivery here in our county, even though is large. We're adding a fee for long hauls, gas is $$$ when the truck get 11 MPG pulling the dump trailer.
I had to get my woodyard fix in last night after work. Made a little man glitter. The Husky 55 got the call to action. It really cuts good since I put a loop of the Archer chain on it. Still some good wood in these logs. We got both trees bucked. Done by 9:00, that included getting lights set up, logs moved to cutting sled/area and stacking smaller rounds. I didn't get home till after 7PM... Hope to get started splitting tonight.
I do the green split delivery to a friend who likes hickory when he has room for it. He also has started liking oak heartwood too. His little 3 bay shed only holds two cords though. I keep telling him id like to enlarge it. The front beam is at 6' and i hit my head on it when i stack for him.
