Got done with my 1.5 hour massage and then got a call from my main man asking me if I wanted some river birch literally 2 minutes away. Having never split it I said sure and took basically all the pieces he had already bucked to 16". There were a few pieces that were a tad too long for my taste that I trimmed down but man what an easy score.
We are pretty close to your location coreboy83 and there is a lot of it in the neighborhood, including one in our front yard. It grows pretty fast and is getting messy as it is always shedding dead small branches in any wind to speak of, and the seed mess in the spring requires a lot of clean up in the driveway. It looks stringy compared to white birch we burn a lot of LordOfTheFlies.
Nice. The Isocore will sink right in. I had a hard time halving a few from my score of it over the Summer. Seemed a lot softer than normal b!tch.
You mean birch? Hahahaha. White birch splits super easy. Black birch impossible by hand. This one is in the middle, closer to white. But this here piece literally splashed me in the face with water with each stroke holy cow.
LordOfTheFlies You can always try splitting a slab or 3 off from the sides. Many a stubborn birch round has met it's demise over the decades that way. You're welcome.
OOPS! The "T" and the "R" are neighbors on the keyboard. I really should proof read before i post! Sorry about that mods!
I kind of like how each type of wood has its own physical properties in terms of how they split and burn. Someone sure did design an interesting world for us to live in, and I like it.
And the different, amazing smells of each wood when you split them! You really get that experience 100% uncontaminated when splitting by hand vs splitter.
