I can’t believe how green and beautiful everything still is there! Once we get a good frost, the grass dies off. Usually mid to late august.

I broke down and started this season’s first fire. A few splits Ash, and Silver Maple. 68 in the house but the Mrs. said “I’m cold build a fire”. Say no more. In my 7 seasons of heating with wood this is the longest into the season I’ve gone for 1st fire.
It’s currently in the 50’s outside, cloudy with a bit of a breeze.

They're talking well above normal here thru mid October. Not even a frost, that's late for here. Poor plants are looking tired & ready to go to sleep. We've got nice temps, no bugs & windows open, so no complaints.

It is still very green here, there was a ton of farms cutting hay one last time this week. We are over are avg high for this time of the year. It was almost 80 today and calling for 82 tomorrow. We do this horse ride every year, it's always the same dates and this has to be the warmest it has been,. Have been here in coats and insulated jeans on before and today was jeans and a sleeveless shirt and was sweating.

61 out right now. Oak,maple and cherry mix in the camp fire. Cold drink in my hand :drunk:

Really nice day, got to mid 60s as the high. 55 or so now. I was a little chilled after sitting out at son's soccer game. Still no fire in house.
Everything still pretty green here as well. 1st day of archery saturday, woods still pretty thick.

Cold, foggy, rain/snow mix all day today. Low to mid 30's all day. I've been burning some big chunks of Douglass Fir bark to clean up my processing area. Heats the house nice when it's not super cold. It would go in the trash otherwise. Waste not, want not.

From the gas station in "town" today... Town is still at about 8,500 feet. My wife calls this vampire weather.

    Well well well,
I talked a big game for sure about waiting til the middle of October to get the first fire going, and with highs of mid 70's and lows of 50's for next week I was probably on track for that.
But it's 59 outside right now and they're calling for mid 40's tonight, so I got the maiden voyage for the winter underway. Anyone's guess what the wood is, but it's leftover from a bundle I put together for a buddy this summer who was having a lady friend over and wanted to impress her with a fire in his yard, so I grabbed up some nice dry wood and my solo stove firepit and lent it to him for the weekend.
He didn't go through all the wood, so that's what I've got in the stove right now. I missed these fires.

Well started first fire here. Burned a few uglies to get the chill out of the house and then let it go out.
