So, I think, I've got six or seven cords to last me through the winter. That, and I've got a local saw mill that will give me the leftover slabs that are stacked on the back of their lot, but... you know I feel compelled to keep taking down the dead standing trees on the property, cause, well, why let them go to waste... So yeah, I've got another stack started down in the lower field. Normally I wouldn't bother posting, but as the sun set today, the light was just perfect, and I snapped this picture. He’s in the mountains, but I’m sure I burn at least 5 between the 2 wood hogs in my house. Southerners are extremely allergic to temps below 70. I cleaned the chimney today and moved wood in, because my house is cold. At this time of year we get no solar heating so outside temps are 10deg warmer and feels 20deg warmer in the sun. The downside of living in the woods. As soon as nighttime temps are in the 40’s I’m making fire.

I'm up at 3500 feet. It can get cold, and I only have a wood stove for heat. In the wise words of Johnah Street (Dakar motorcycle racer) too much fuel is never enough, unless your bike is on fire. Besides, I love the excuse to give the Ms461 with a 25" bar some exercise.
Hey, hey hey... I spent many winters North of Burlington VT with hoar frost on the inside of my windows. I'm not a thermal weenie. But then again now that I'm in my 50's, I do really like having warm toes, and no ice inside the house. I figure I've earned this.

Smaug and Chud I live a long way north of you and I too most times when temp is in 40's will have a small fire in the stove. I like cool but outside. Inside I want to be comfortable without wearing outdoor clothing. In addition, the ladies usually wear less clothing when it is warm...
Great looking stacks of wood. I'd be proud of that myself. I love the mountains of NC, TN and N GA. I've been on both sides of you, but never right there.
