Think we may have our first fire of the season very soon.

This mornings temperature is 63. Hopefully it will be a while before we have to start the fires.

Caffeine going in, almost time for a walk/run.

Upon arrival to work yesterday, I spotted this:

Reported it to the building owners and this am it was cut down. Looks like they sprayed first. These were the occupants.

Quick Google search says Bald Face Hornets.

    Bald face bastards!
That one appears dead, so that's good, but I see no evidence of charring, so apparently no fire involved...not good!

They just cut the limbs off that the nest was attached to. All hornets were dead.

What I hate is now I have to throw away all my scrap wood...

I have to cut down some trees later on. Maybe I can sell the wood. On the other hand I'd really like a a sawmill.

Fired up the splitter and did a couple face cord with 99 at the controls! Probably one or two more times before I put it away for winter months. The rest of the wood pile is all split and ready to go!

Yesterday morning was in the mid 40's but with no wind and fairly sunny skies the temp recovered up to 72. After I logged off from work it was a really pleasant afternoon to do some leaf mowing (I use the mulch mower on leaves - no raking or bagging). Not too many leaves had to be dealt with so it didn't take too long, just enough to get in some exercise while trying to stay on top of it at this point. I could have waited until today but we have a good possibility of rain, so didn't want the leaves to get all wet and matt down. Most of my yard is still wet, with parts of it muddy and it hasn't rained for several days (about 1/4") and we haven't had any big rain for a couple of weeks.

By the looks of it this morning's temp will bottom out about 10* above what it was yesterday. but it is supposed to be cloudy all day, so the afternoon high will be about what it was yesterday.

I think it rained all night and looks like it will continue for a long time. Not sure how much we've got so far but plenty.
