It looks like he has a skip tooth chain on that setup if I'm not mistaken. I've never run a skip tooth since I don't own a bar that would benefit from one. That said I'm already semi-dreading sharpening the chain on the 034 with the 20" bar vs the 18" on the 028. Of course, I'm assuming I can it put it all back together. Heh heh. Knock on WOOD!!
It's not bad, filing them, what 12 hrs nite shift is for... I have a little folding table in there that is just the right height...plus an air hose just outside makes cleaning easy...
Yes sir, 2001 F150, got 295K on it. Had 40K when I got it. We only got the dump trailer in 2018...before that it was haul logs on flat bed trailer. Had to pull them off...
Try sharpening a 36" bar! I really applaud you for the time and effort youve put into that 034. I have no patience for fixing stuff like that.
That trailer is cool too!! 295k you must wrench on the truck yourself I imagine. Did you use a winch to pull them off??
I've done minor things to the truck. Had mechanic replace the engine about 200K, head gasket started leaking oil. We unloaded the trailer with a cable in a tree, hook log up, pull trailer foward until log fell off, roll log over with cant hook, back up trailer, repeat until done...sometimes took 30 minutes or more to unload
Time for an update, the first full week of Sept, my hunny and I finally took a vacation/anniversary trip. We are back, time to start on the woodyard again. We went Saturday morning to help a church member with a pecan tree. The tree, it has several long stems, a couple leaning towards his house on the right, a couple on the left leaning towards his dog fence. The main trunk, I believe, has some center rot. I know it has some leaking sap. We used our work box on the forks of the tractor to reach the stems coming off the main trunk. We got a couple short limbs down and 3 long stems down. We had to do a shallow notch undercut, then bore cut to avoid a barberchair, then complete the top cut. We put all we could on the trailer, Made a nice pile of logs I believe that will make more than a cord stacked, looks like we need to build a shed for pecan... We had 3 smaller pieces a 1 short, big piece left at site. We are waiting on the bucket truck to be available to finish the tree. Should be another trailer load when done. This will be BBQ/smoker wood, I hope... Saws used were MS180 for limbing on the ground, XS029 Hybrid and MS461 28" bar in the work box for the big stems. Homeowner also used his MS250 to help limb and buck to length.
Need the bucket truck because of the close proximity to the house? You will keep your smoker customers in pecan for a long time!
Yes ma'am, house on 1 side fence on the other. It would fall ok, IF everything went perfect, but working off the tractor, and how the 3 stems join the trunk was just too risky...

295K I didn't realize Georgia was so heavily integrated with the metric system. Truck looks nice for its age!

We got started on another cord load of 16" splits on Monday, the 20th. Rain stopped us by 10:00. We did get the first row done. This is our set-up for now. Split and load in trailer When we put the grapple on the tractor, we had to change the loader handle/knob. Glad I saved it, put it on the splitter, sure makes it more comfortable Worked on the load more on Tuesday between showers and finished/delivered it Wednesday. This load was super clean, almost totally bark free. Logs had been sitting for several months, bark was a little loose and these grubs were under the bark. It was easy to knock it off. She was very pleased. After we got back, brought more logs down for the next load. Got a couple bucked up The big pecan limb at our daugher's house finally came loose from the tree and I was able to pull it down Added a nice little pile to the stash And then the tree service dropped off another load of oak... I think that was was our week...lol...
WOW Jeff! When you work on firewood you dont mess around. I like the barkless oak. Something new im trying. Separate out the barkless from the barked splits and sell as such. I like the ball knob too. The splitter i use doesnt have one. Wish it did.
We started splitting the rounds from the 2 logs we bucked Wednesday. Most were nice and round, made rolling them up the ramp easier... They were nice size, about as big as I want to handle whole... We got 8 of them split and stacked on the trailer. Made almost 2 1/2 rows. We have 5 more of those big rounds to do. These 2 and these 3. I will probably use the tractor to place them on the splitter, got a couple knots on them... We did buck up a smaller log yesterday and added it to the ramp as well.
