A project in my mothers house that has kept me from playing with my wood (sorry mom) Convert a small bathroom and adjacent small room into a new bath and laundry. Glad it’s over.
I find a lot of the shower accents aren't to my liking, or the wavy tiles - but that is awesome. Slightly understated, while at the same time a bit bold (don't ask me how both can be true, but to me they are). The black accents break up the wavy lines nicely and I like how it has been carried thru on the outer edges.
Thanks. Much of the design came down to my mothers preferences or more accurately the limitations she placed on me. She picked the tile, not a fan myself. With wavy tile you cannot put a cut against a cut so I needed to use the cove strips on inside corners. She wouldn’t allow outside corner strips or bullnose. That left the 2” threshold style pieces as my only choice. Let’s just say I didn’t leave her another choice in that matter LOL. They make “thresholds” in the appropriate size for wall jambs. But the wall hung toilet jamb is not a standard size at all. It’s about 8”. Knowing that would require something different I ran those silver/blackish pieces up with a 1/2” black pencil in the middle to make it work and went with 2” on the other jambs to add the silver black. Mom picked the silver/black accents. I ended up using the 1/2” pencil tiles to add a little more accent to them. Came in handy for making measurements work and stretching the silver black ones which were advertised as 1x12 but really only 3/4” wide. I just about died when I found out how much those silver/black tile costs. Mom doesn’t look at price when she shops just picks what she likes. At $10 a piece there’s over $2000 in just those silver black tile alone. That’s why the nook has a mix in it. I was t ordering more after I found out how undersized they were and waiting a couple months to get them. I used to do tile when tile were small. These larger format tiles take so much longer to do. Never again.
Nice job We had our 20yr shower surround replaced a few years ago. Not having the patience, tools, and techniques, we had a "tiler" come in for it. We had both a fixed shower head with a diverter for a hand held. Just the hand held this time around. Works fine. We asked about niches. $500 each. The corner shelves are just fine. Cedar on the ceiling. Mosaic tile breaks up the wall. Suction cup hooks work. Where it all goes
Looks great. There’s only one corner shelf and it ended up in the tub Getting my mother to make a decision on anything is almost impossible. She doesn’t have an opinion until after it’s done LOL Had a house fire in early December 2019. Entire inside getting redone and the contractor that was supposed to do it took the money and ran. I took over this December starting with all new subfloor and walls. Been working on it since. Projects still going on because mom just blocks things out. So for the last few months I just do whatever I want. It needs to get done. I need it to get done.
That shower looks great! We're planning on a bathroom remodel. While I love tile, I don't install it and am too cheap to pay. So a shower surrond will have to do.
Did one of those for my girlfriend. Alcove bathtub 4 piece unit. Super easy to do and very economical.
You sir love your mom mom is not what they usually call that type of customer .. Looks great.. BUT I have to laugh when people complain about house prices and 1 tile in shower uninstalled is $10
I did 2 bathrooms this past year pro bono because of this very reason, both elderly ladies. Job looks good not my style but hey that's what makes the world go round
Certain not my style either. More like best I could come up with with the pieces provided. The morals and quality of trades people seems to have regressed horribly since I’ve been in residential. Good on you for spreading some good Karma.
