We had a really nice dinner Tuesday night after the boat tour. We had never been to a Brazilian steakhouse. Saw one close to where we were staying. Great experience, 30 item salad bar, 7 hot dishes and about 15 different cuts of meat you could try. We tried beef ribs, pork ribs, bacon wrapped filet mignon, top sirloin, parmesan chicken and pork, smoked sausage. We saw some lamb chops too, but didn't try any. The meat is roasted by a fire and then served on long skewers..bacon wrapped filet Chicken I had to get my grub on...
Wednesday afternoon we took a tour that our adult beverage drinking members would have liked. Hilton Head Distillery Co. Very nice set-up they have. They make several types of rum and 1 brand of vodka. A couple of the older stills they started out with... They use steam now to heat the pot... To make the vodka, they run the rum through the 2 tall column stills on the right, 95%, 190 proof when it comes out. More of the equipment Another man has his own recipe for gin. He buys IBC totes of alcohol, adds his aromatics and rents their bottling line. Bulrush is his brand... Some of their rum in the aging barrels. They had a sister distillery that made bourbon, it was closed and the bourbon was brought here to finish aging. The owner even made 2 collegiate flavors, 1 for the USC Gamecocks and 1 for the Clemson Tigers. Gamecocks was papaya/habanero, Miz Carol liked it. You can taste the pepper in the Clemson better
We left Hilton Head Island Thursday morning and had a nice drive up to Charleston. Saw some interesting sights along the way. This was outside Beaufort, at the entrance to a base. Some of the huge salt marshes between Beaufort and Charleston We saw 2 interesting loads on semis. 1 was a load of palm trees The next load was......I think my mud tires have come in... That's big when only 3 will fit on a trailer... 1st view of part of Charleston Habor Found out the streets flood easily Coming up on the big bridge over the Cooper River
Congratulation to you both, Carol and Jeff on your 33rd. Many happy returns of the day! I have lived in Georgia (Brunswick) and Maryland (On the Patuxent River) but somehow never spent much time in the Carolinas. Looks like you had some beautiful scenery there. I like the eating shirt!
Lol...I wish... I even saw some nice oak limbs and logs on the trip, my hunny reminded me that we were on VACATION and I couldn't put any in the trunk......I wanted to be a car hoarder like Midwinter ...
On Friday morning, we had a tour of Ft Sumter planned. The ferry boat left from Patriot's Point, Mt Pleasant. They have the USS Yorktown, a destroyer, a submarine and a Vietnam building there. We didn't have time to tour this, that will be another trip. We passed a small fort, Castle Pickney on the way out to Ft Sumter. It's almost underwater at high tide. First views of Ft Sumter, lot of history here Some of the cannons there. After the war, a mine field and control room was added The walls were originally 50 ft high, they are 20-25 ft now... Shell in the wall Work after the war... Cannon on top of the walls Red stripe on flag pole shows how high the wall were at the beginning First flag flown at Ft Sumter...
Congrats on yalls anniversary. Looks like you had a great trip. Those Brazilian steakhouses will make you hurt yourself. When's the fourth tire coming in for your truck? And surely you could have strapped an IBC container or 2 to the vehicle!
Friday afternoon, we toured the Boone Hall Plantation. It was formed in the late 1600's, it has been sold a few times, it is still a working farm with about 750 acres. We even got to meet the owner, very nice lady... I think MikeInMa bogieb Midwinter fishingpol Chazsbetterhalf Woodwidow and other flower garden loving folks would enjoy this place... The driveway going in... One of the huge live oaks close to the main house. I can reach at least 6' across... My hunny and me beside the same tree The wall on each side of the driveway The main house...it was built like this in the early 1900's, I think. The original house was damaged by a hurricane. This house has some of the original cypress boards in it. The gardens on each side had an amazing brick path winding through it. Wish I could have gotten a drone shot from above. This was a huge butterfly bush Some more flowers... This was the smokehouse Miz Carol found her a resting spot UNDER a live oak... A curvy brick wall Going out to the Cotton Dock Wide cypress boards on these walls View off the dock, down the tidal creek
Thanks, brother. Hope you are feeling better today... Those tires were huge, weren't they...I'm guessing they probably went on a 65 ton or bigger off road truck or loader. If I had tried to put an IBC tote on Miz Carol's little red car, that would have surely ended the happily married bliss......
I look at these pics and all I can think of is I wonder if the guy is interested in getting rid of the IBC totes...I could stack a lot of firewood in those!
