I was dumb when I was younger but that's some dangerous stuff. Looks like just terrible technique but if anything look sketchy as far as barber chairing I throw a chain around it.

I'd be better with a tractor and FEL hanging from it.

Wow! No face cut & a nice angled back cut, what could possibly go wrong.:jaw: Dude's lucky that tree didn't come up and give him the kiss of death!

Trees with lean can be so deceptive. To the beginner it just looks like an easy fell. They think "probably don't even need to notch it, gravity will take it down once I cut the back out." then it barber chairs and hopefully they only walk away with a a scare and a new respect for what they don't know about cutting down trees. Maybe a good opportunity for you to talk with about how that thing could have taken his head off and give him a few instructions about felling. Even simple things like having a clear work area, an escape route, proper PPE, and what trees to stay away from or seek help with before trying would go a long way.

Looks like relatively flat ground, and easy escape routes helped him live to tell the story!

And he is probably thinking he did good, got it on the ground. The next time it may wind up not so good.
