With some help from Redneck we got our stove ready for winter yesterday. Now if mother nature will allow some cooling...

TrinitySouth99 all vinyl siding is designed to let some water through; usually 10% that’s why there are weep holes on bottom

Also probably why they use tyvek or some other similar wrap underneath the siding. I know our house now has a thick styrofoam insulation and 2 layers of tyvek under the new vinyl siding.

Yes, apparently it's acceptable down south because of the lack of snow load and whatnot.

Yes, and on that note tyvek isn't permanately waterproof either, enough water exposure for long enough and some will seep through. I guess in layman's terms, the concept is, the vinyl siding isn't totally waterproof, neither is the tyvek, but working together they'll keep the wood dry.

Of course, in the real world you'll never eliminate all traces of moisture from your walls. No insulation helps with longevity that way, but that's not an acceptable compromise for most people if you want an affordable heating bill.

He was finally granted coverage after a good number of weeks fight. I guess he's as good as can be expected. He only missed one treatment in the interval, thanks to much generosity from other people.

Sounds like we may have another round of storms today and hope this is the end of that stuff. Also supposed to be hot. Where is the fall weather? Well, we didn't get to 70 yesterday so that is better.

The basement project is coming along nicely.

I bought a 6-panel door, stained and coated it with poly (satin) and got that hung. Trimmed it also so I could hang more white cedar on the walls which I did yesterday. Now, I have one more wall to extend (7' ish) and then its ready for the rest of the cedar.

The laminate flooring is on hold for a couple of days since I have not yet figured out how to do both the wall and the flooring at the same time.

Pics were taken and will be posted at a future date, as soon as I can justify taking the time to look for the USB cord for my phone to load the pics for you unbelievers......!!!! :p

On a more serious note, the place I bought has a pressure tank for the well that is buried. :jaw: Yup.

Well was drilled decades ago, with the pressure tank BURIED! I just can't wrap my head around that whole process until I learned a little more of why it was. :picard:

Now when I say buried, I don't mean it's in an accessible vault, I mean there is no evidence of a pressure tank what-so-ever. :hair:

I did know about this before I bought the place and my offer was adjusted to allow for the project of locating (digging until found), removal and install of new tank in basement. A water treatment and new pump will be added at the same time.

Although the house (12 years old) and house trailer (before home was built) ran off the system and never had a problem with it, I'm with the thought process that it is a time bomb just waiting to fail.......probably at the most inopportune time. Like winter time.

Any way, the contractor showed up yesterday, after talking to him back in June. He dropped off the excavator and should be showing up any time now.

Hopefully, it'll be a one day job to be without water.

Here's to good luck on finding that pressure tank right away! :handshake:
