Took down a 3+ foot bhd black locust and a 4+ foot bhd sugar maple at my church this week. Haven't dropped the main stem of the sugar maple yet but will next week. I bet it's 400+ years old it's huge! I'll take a picture of it tomorrow when we go. Pics don't do justice how big the rounds are
Wow, nice score! I’m loving all the wood score threads happening right now. That’s a nice pile of wood right there. Congrats
Ya I'm happy to save the church money and it's a huge score for me. Don't like taking down old trees but they've both broken multiple times and have crushed a shed and a fence. So I'm sick of fixing stuff they fall on so they had to go.
Holy cow (no pun intended) thats a great score. Close to an entire burning seasons worth of wood there. Nice when you can cut it to your size too! I think 24" is the biggest BL ive ever cut.
Nice score!! Are you planning on taking all of it back home? That's going to be a lot of trips in the truck but fun trips! Nothing wrong with taking down a tree as long as you have a good reason.
Yep I'm gonna take it all in the truck. 8 trips so far lucky it's close. I got a line on a used dump trailer that if it's still available I'll get. I need one bad. I started loading the huge rounds with the tractor into to truck but that was a hassle and I was gonna break something so started noodling the big BL rounds
Ya we got some giant BL around here. There was an easy 4 footer at the front corner of our last house. Well storm came through and it lost a main leader.. so I took it down. Farmer across the street comes over and says I'd leave the stump pretty high cuz that's saved the house a number of times from cars in the winter. It's a very dangerous curve in the road. Sure enough it saved 2 cars from hitting the house while we were there. Called it my car catcher
