A different kind of hoarding

Update

The house is entirely cleaned out. Besides the two 12 yard dumpsters that my wife and I filled which tipped at 2.9 tons, the clean out crew of 5 worked for six days to fill five 30 yard dumpsters which tipped at 28 tons. They also took two 6x12 dump trailers full of unopened boxes of merchandise to Goodwill. I also had a picker come who took two van and 12 foot trailer full loads. UNREAL the amount of stuff she had packed in that house. The bill from the clean out crew is $15K.

 

The structure is sound but there is some serious cat urine damage but contained to her bedroom because she wouldn’t let the cat out of that room. We did not remove the carpets, I’m assuming the subfloor on that room will have to be replaced. We are selling it as is.

 

So sorry for y'alls loss. That was a MAJOR task that neither of you needed to do. I hope you found all the valuable things...

That’s some serious tonnage! I can’t even imagine.

 

Activities like that are nice to have in the rear view mirror.

What a big job that was. The house must seem so much bigger now as well. Too bad about the cat smell. I don't know about your area but everything for sale around here gets snapped really fast.

 

Sorry for your loss DaveGunter ... now, that I see all of the stuff is gone, and only the house to sell... it has to be some relief. When we sold our old family farm, I felt a lot of emotions... not many good, either. Draining. When it's time to bring someone's entire life to a close, things just have to be done, and much of it is uncomfortable. It is what it is. I hope the home sells quickly so you and your wife can move on.

 

Sorry for your loss Dave. I helped a friend in a similar situation. No trash or infestation, but untold thousands in unopened QVC purchases. She struggled with it herself for a while before asking us for help when she had very little time left before the sale. We busted our asses to get it emptied.....then someone looked in the attic I noped out of that portion.

 

Yeah, my FIL also just sold a farm he bought 30 years ago and restored, he was attached but had to let it go, He’d call me a couple times a week to give me stuff that he just couldn’t part with himself.

 

Yup... it's tough sorting stuff... and then selling / giving or throwing some / most away. Glad we did it, in our case... now our kids will have 75% less to deal with... and it'll probably still be waaay too much...
