We live in East Baton Rouge Parish in a town called Central. We didn't see the worst of Hurricane Ida but what we did see was more than enough. We evacuated before the storm hit so everyone was safe but we did have a tree hit the house which caused a fair amount of roof and water damage. Will all be fine in the end cause we've wanted a new roof for a while but it's been a lot of work getting everything cleaned up. We were able to get the tree off the house the day after the storm and then get the roof tarped before anymore rain came (that was Monday of this week). I've spent the rest of the week cleaning up damage inside the house (ceiling collapsed in one of the bedrooms because of the water that came in) and cleaning up the yard and the other tree that fell in the back as well as helping neighbors as I can (the house to the right of ours, the white brick had a tree fall on them too).

I don't know what all the news is talking about but the damage is pretty bad, similar to Hurricane Laura last year but spread over a much more densely populated area. It's hard to find gas and grocery stores are working hard to keep shelves stocked in my area and most people don't have power and many don't even have water. As for me, we are good on power and water so I feel bad for other folks that don't have either.

Anywho, here's some pics of what I've been up to this week (my house is the one on the left)... 20210830_114001_resized.jpg 20210830_114021_resized.jpg 20210830_114033_resized.jpg 20210830_114043_resized.jpg IMG1513590206245458255.jpg IMG3678854374861074178.jpg 20210830_123810.jpg 20210830_131141.jpg IMG9118345818042905765.jpg

Sorry to hear you weren’t spared down there. I’ll bet if the tree missed your house you’d be looking at it like a major firewood bonus, but I’m sure it’s a rotten feeling seeing a massive hole in your roof.

it's a tulip poplar that fell. I have a 2 foot bar on my chainsaw and had to cut from both sides at the base so it was probably 28 or 30 inches in diameter. would have been great for firewood but with all the oaks and beech down in our neighborhood i'm happy to left that stuff at the end of the road.

Super glad you and your family are safe Jeremy Anthon. That is the most important thing. Is that you on the roof with the saw? :D

Plus a new roof sounds nice.

Hard to like this post. Glad you are safe JA! Material items can be fixed or replaced. Thats why we have insurance. Thanks for posting. We are getting the remnants as i type. Very heavy rain. Flash flood watch/warning and tornado watch until 1 am.
Of course i have to ask...are you getting all the wood?

Sorry to see the damage Jeremy. Glad you are all safe. I'm still waiting to hear from friends in Baton Rouge other than they are okay.

Yall there is sooooo much wood on the side of the road, a lot of oaks and beech and I told my wife today that I want to go scrounge for but between needing to get back to my job, neighbors and friends that still need help, regular house maintenance, and kids...i just don't see how I'll have time for at least a few weeks and it may get picked up by then. 20210901_065814.jpg 20210901_065852.jpg 20210901_065945.jpg

Same sentiment here- glad y’all are safe.
Be careful cutting in those stacked roadside piles (if you get the chance)… lots of forces involved.
