Those pictures are so to the point and yes, there is a peace that can only be found in the country. However, it hit home to me again yesterday when I had driven to the big city of Flint. Ugly there! But then on the way home I took a route that kept me out of the city but had to go around the long way to miss it. So driving through the country in most places the roads were lined with house after house, just about like in the cities! That, to me is not really country. I need some elbow room and I don't care to see what my neighbors are doing and also do not appreciate neighbors staring at me and my property every day. Yet I know this is not for everybody.
I always wanted to live in a log cabin in an area where you could grow a vegetable garden and be off the grid. Unfortunately I also wanted unlimited supply of hot water and electric lights. The two were not compatible. Many years later, the technology has developed to where it would be possible to have it all. Now it just seems too much work to live like that.
I can only see one neighbor for my property but am only a few minutes from gas stations and grocery stores so it's a happy medium just about perfect for me. I do love that no one cares what I do out here...I can have huge fires and shoot guns because everyone does. Also great for raising cows and kids lol
This is ours. We ran it for 20 years with the same generator I used to build it. We just got power hooked up from the local co-op. We plan to move back to the area in 2-4 years, but we are getting things ready to do so sooner as mandates seem to be ever encroaching on us. No running water yet, but I plan to build a sauna/bath house adjacent. The building pad is already prepared on the level and 15’ from the front door.
