When I would go for bass and blues on the east coast, some of the guys would bleed the live fish out on the deck. I guess the idea was to get the blood out of the flesh. I thought it was a good idea so I did it too. I can't say I tasted a difference but maybe there was. Have you heard of this?
For shark, they would swing em on the deck like they were cleaning a floor mat.

When we catch black sea bass, the crew would bleed the keepers.

Only caught one of those. It was a keeper, just out of season. :(

I bleed all fish and immediately place on ice. I believe that you get a better end product.

I have never had ice aside from maybe 5 or 6 big ice packs for the trip home. As long as it isn't too hot, a burlap bag with some water spray keeps things pretty cool. In Alaska, you could probably dip-net some glacier for the cooler.

I don’t normally grab glacial ice for the cooler because it’s out of the way. I bring 2 coolers, one wheeled cooler with ice for the fish and one sports cooler with ice water.

I know that most fish buyers in Wa. State pay more for bled fish. The appearance of the fillets is better and unbled fish spoil more quickly. I can't say about the taste. I bleed then ice my fish immediately also!

Everyone enjoys themselves, and all the good fish in the freezer makes the long winter, well feed.
