I have a huge Parker 978 vise that a guy on another forum has been trying to buy from me for 3 years. He just contacted me again and offered a shocking (to me) amount for it. This has spurred my thinking as to the rarity of it and a restored value. It's fully functional now, but the vise collectors like a pretty paint job and the swivel assembly needs a little love.
I can't find much on the web but it seems that the 978 is the biggest one that Parker made.
    The jaws are 8" across!
I'm looking for a "vise guy", yes folks there are some that collect vises instead of saws:eek:
and with his $1500 offer, I just want to know "just what do I have here". I don't believe that the forum member is anything but a devout vise collector with honest intentions.

Well, I've got my vices. Several. And I can't seem to let them go at any price.

    Following....

I just brought a vise back from the cabin. It was my dad's, and I've already got a couple. I see some vise's go for big bucks.

Mine sounds like small potatoes compared to yours. Rockford 6 vise. Probably 60-75 lbs.

I looked up that vise and they go for 2500 apparently even a few years ago, especially if they have a stand.

Here... A couple years ago though so links to the ads don't won't. Chas Parker 978 for sale in Arizona

You can only imagine that these types of things are up in value over the last few years.

The vise is just shy of 300 lbs. That's a biggun' that you have.

That's the "other forum" that I'm on and got a pm from a member in 2018, again asking if I'd sell it.
    Thank H.

Rockford. Just sold it for $75. I had several people contacting me tonight and didn't even have it listed for a full day. Maybe could've gotten a little more for it but the guy that bought it owns a tree service right in my town. So there might be some fire wood in the future from this.. I have his card now and he has my phone #. 20210816_182517.jpg

Many of those vises with the big numbers on them were made overseas. Good to send it down the road. Good contact too.

It was made in Taiwan. Which from what I can tell they actually make very good vise's. Many Wilton vise are now made in Taiwan. The Chinese ones though.... Those are not good quality.

That said, I've got enough vise's and this might be a good contact for me
