Lousy to hear that someone did this. It is an unfortunate risk that no one should have to deal with. I hope karma pays them a visit. An unfortunate learning experience. I can't stand thieves.
Stealing often has its roots in lack of respect for others which often has roots in no respect/pride for oneself. About all you can do is use it as an opportunity for a life lesson especially in self esteem. Try to minimize it and hope it doesn't destroy your fun project.
My boy sold probably a hundred bundles from the roadside stand in front of the house this summer. He’s done really well with it and enjoys the spending money. There wasn’t enough in the stand The other day for the 5 for 20$ deal, so I told him, no bundles no income. He filled it up and the very next day they were selling again. Good for him to see One good reason to be in “tourist hell”, right? Good to hear it’s going well with the boys!
End of year update. She sold 104 bundles. Only had the seven stolen. Think we may branch out (pun intended) and try a small camp site. Maybe talk to the camp host about leaving a tote of bundles. If not, I've got a good friend that lives a half mile from the camp site on the only road into it. There's hope. Thank all of you for the advice and good luck to all of you that sell too.
Well, spoke to camp host about a month ago about a little firewood stand at the lake. He said the state won't allow it. Spoke to my buddy around the same time, he said his neighbors have a stand and didn't want to upset them with competition. I understand that. So, we loaded 9 bundles up this evening headed to the lake and just started stopping at campsites with fires going. Did 7 each or 3 for 20. Sold all 9 of them. Ended up knowing 2 of the 3 people we sold to, so that may have had an impact. We had a 50% sales to rejection ratio,(made 6 stops, sold to 3 of em), which seemed very good to me. Have to make some more up and try again in a few weeks. Don't want to be seen to often probably. Its about 12 miles one way, so not to bad travel time either.
We acquired a second location today. Right on the main highway coming into a town. My wife actually made the connection via her work and a few phone calls later the 2nd roadside stand is in place. Upped the price a buck for travel and so they can make their percentage too. He's hoping it will help with the bait machine. Daughter was gone before I got a picture, but her brother was eager to say cheese. He's actually been helping more anyhow.
Little late night bundle making. He wanted to help. We tend to make 10 at a time. Restocked the home stand and put the ten new ones in the sunroom for dry storage. Actually forecasting rain, finally.
My kids don’t know it yet but next week “they” are starting a little business selling firewood. We’ve got an 80ft grand fir coming down next week which I’ll split and they’ll stack over Thanksgiving. I have some other low-grade wood squirreled around the property too. I won’t need it or want it for the wood stove. Next summer we’ll load up the van and cruise the local campgrounds on busy weekends. This area frequently runs out of firewood. We’ll try a roadside stand too. Around here I’ve seen that some other roadside stands accept Venmo, so I might too. We get a lot of younger people here that probably don’t carry much cash. Problem is—very few people get cell service here! Anyway, looking forward to the adventure. I appreciate some of the guidance in this thread.
Best of luck. We've had venmo and paypal option for 4 months or so and no one has used it yet. Still like having the option though.
My son wanted to do that, but we have to deal with living on a shared private drive, the driveway is pretty narrow going up the hill, and my neighbor probably wouldn't be too happy with random cars coming and going.
