Sideboards and headache rack

I wasn't sure if this post was more appropriate for the wood shed forum or the tool shed forum. Since it has some pics with firewood I opted for the wood shed.

A relative of mine from Seattle was in town over the 4th of July weekend. He's 79 years old and a U.S. Marine veteran who drove a deuce and a half in Vietnam. He's a handyman and we worked together on putting these sideboards on my truck. I make no claims about being handy. He did the skill work. I was his assistant. It took about two and a half hours.

I thought the project turned out well. It was my idea to put the wood cookie decorations on. They seem appropriate since I mainly haul firewood. I bought the deer and bear metal decorations from Bass Pro Shops and screwed them to the wood cookies.

Now I can haul approximately twice the amount of wood as before. I realize that the two pics with the wood in the bed are not showing full capacity. I was cutting the first week of July during a heat wave on the side of the road and my butt was kicked. I thought it was better to quit than get heat stroke trying to get a full load. The other pic shows all the splits from the rounds I got on the side of the road.

 

Helpful hint. You might want to add a chain across the back of the side boards at the top.
I spread a bed to the point the tailgate fell out.

I've seen that before...they just aren't the same after that either...

 

And if you have room to stack wood, you know you're gonna do it.
