I wasn't happy about it at all... No fault of Woodstock, but they could have protected the area around the handle a little better I think.

Yes all gaskets were replaced except on the door as I was told to take it off and keep it home.

Got our stove back Friday last week. Haven't looked too close, but only damage was a couple of scratches on the top through the plastic. Otherwise it was crated it up like when shipped new. Still sitting in the crate as we were gone last weekend but my put it back this weekend. See how much time I have.

The crate my stove had around it was actually broken where the damage was located.... Two of the vertical planks were pushed out of the bottom crate with the staples no longer securing the planks down. Not sure what they hit but there was some force applied at the time of impact.

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Ben, I've been obsessing over an Ideal Steel since 2013, and I finally have a home that can accommodate one. I placed an order about 3 weeks ago, and from what I've heard from Lorin, my stove will be ready to ship in early to mid September.

I got The Works package (with rear heat shield), and I have them including a second ash pan and catalyst with the order. I went with design CLA011 ("Downhill") for the side panels, side burners, and andirons, and NAT003 ("Snowflake") for the center burner. Skiing and snow are my raison d'etre, and that design combo seems to encompass it perfectly.

I also splurged and went for custom colors, as I prefer to have a unique stove. I went with an Almond body and Surf Sand accents. My install date is the last Thursday in September, so it will be awhile before I share pictures of it in action, but I'm thrilled to be able to contribute to this thread, and to have my hearth be home to such a beautiful stove.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here installed/burned the newest version of the IS? This thread is an amazing resource, but it seems like a lot of people are running stoves from the first 2 or 3 years that they were produced.

This will be my third winter with mine. I'm not sure if that is the "newest" version of the stove or not, but I'm just as happy with it as anyone else. :)

I did buy new gaskets, another cat, and a second pan this winter, although I don't intend to replace anything yet.

    I don’t have one.
I was just explaining how my luck is. I can take something and have it fixed, not need it for a while and when I need it, usually the repair people just put a band-aid over it. I have terrible luck with service from people.

I’m on year 7 with mine. What have they changed other than the radiator shield?

Upon my inspection before my 1st burn of the season last night, I have the exact same crack. I haven’t gone way back on this thread to look, but is this a replacement situation? I’ve had the stove since 2015.

Wondering if this is something I need look forward to on my Absolute Steel. Although it looks like the same design mechanicals on the outside, the framework maybe be different on the inside given it's smaller box area and side door configuration. It may not be an issue at all on the AS stoves. One thing I do, is easy does it on the door handle close pressure. All added pressure does is flatten the gasket.

I personally haven’t heard of an issue with the AS. From my understanding, it was a simple change in material without a change in welding practices that caused some of the units to have the problem. This has been fixed. I remember hearing a welder could fix it without having to send the stove back for repair but not sure if WS did or still offers that as an option. Really though, anyone with a problem just contact WS and they will take care of you better than a lot of other companies.

Howdy y'all! Nice to see this thread is still active.

Third fire of the season going right now in my IS (2017 model, I believe), and it has a brand new cat this year. The new cat certainly acts differently than the old one...I'm still trying to figure it out. Tonight's fire got pretty hot (STT right around 520, cat probe temp somewhere north of 1500), and I noticed there were flames next to the glowing cat (when looking up into the firebox). Is this normal? I don't recall fire up there before (when the box is black), so perhaps I have a gasket leak somewhere?

    Cheers to another burning season!

I’m on my first week of actual usage for my 2021 stove. When I reload I will try to look up at the cat (I haven’t done that yet). So far my cat gets HOT very quickly (Why do I feel like I should have re-worded that… o well).

Mine is still cracked.... They had me drill a hole at the end and said I could ship it back to them, or I could have a welder MIG it and grind it flat. They also sent me a piece to weld behind to strengthen the section. I still have done neither. I am trying to convince my recently retired parents to take a camping trip up to Woodstock for a week and transport my stove for me.

The recent fix has been welding a new face in front of the old one.
