my tree guy calls yesterday night and says you want a big maple trunk? Well yah sounds like fun! About an hour latter he drops it off. 660 with 32” bar for scale. All CSS this morning. Yielded just under a cord.

He wasnt kidding when he said big! :bug: How often do you have to break out the 660 DH? Very smart move having it on sleepers. Makes it a whole lot easier.
Shoulda taken that to the neighbors working on that pine! ;)

Wow. That trunk is huge. Nice that you have the saw for it.

What ever came about from the complaint of too much wood on your property?

Not very often, when I went to clean off the air filter I realized I still had winter shutter on the cover so it’s been awhile. Wish I needed to use it more often, but the 461 with 28” is usually big enough. The extra 4” was definitely needed in this case.

Good question, I haven’t heard anything since. I’ve sold maybe 10 pickup loads, but added a few since as well! I have noticed a fair amount of mice in the stacks so I’m either going to have to get some DeCon or a farm cat !

What kind of maple is that ?
It doesn't look quite like red maple, but they usually get blown over or rot from the center before they get that big here.

Did you have to noodle at all? Switch to a shorter bar for that purpose?

I seldom use my 36" bar (no 32") but handy when needed for sure. 500i biggest CC saw ive ever used. Had considered a 660/661 but, like you, how often would it get used. Fun cutting big wood, but the logistics of moving it without equipment are a pain in the back. With CAD you never know. If a great deal showed up who knows.
Hoard on and cut safe my friend!

Had to noodle a couple of the nearly rounds. The straight rounds split pretty easy, working around the outside of course.

Thanks for the info, I wasn’t sure without any leaves. Pretty medium BTU’s, but I’m not to picky.

Red is very similar to what you have. I’m just not familiar with silver maple when the trunks are that big to say it’s not that
