If its tall geared and you need to back or drive slowly but with power. Pull it into 4 Low range.

 

Not if you're backing up on an asphalt or concrete and turning at the same time. That's not going to work. In the mud, gravel, or snow ok.......

Doesn't matter slow or fast any kind of reverse uphill you get burnt clutch smell.

Reverse gear sucks. What to do?

 

My last 3 vehicles have been trucks. I grew up driving square body Chevys with 6cyl. 4 speeds. I used to think that crew cabs were stupid. Well, 45 years later I think they're awesome. I've had 2 Chevy Silverado 1500s, both crew cab, short boxes, both with the 5.3L, one with the 6 spd auto, one with the 8 spd auto. The later one got what I thought was very good fuel mileage 20-22 on the highway. Yes, the mileage dropped off while pulling a trailer, but what 1/2 ton gas job doesn't. I kept them long enough to put about 80,000 miles on them. I traded the last Chevy in on a Tacoma crew cab with the 6 foot box.

Start looking a cars.com, search for used, local to you. You'll get a good idea about what's out there and the crazy prices.
Modern day 4x4's get better mileage that they used too. My old 78 f-150 regular cab 4x4 would be lucky to get 12 or 13 MPG, while both newer I had, '11 and '17 would easily get 20 or more..
I don't think the Tacoma is girly.. my v6, auto, crew cab has a towing capacity of 6400 lbs with a weight distributing hitch, or 5000 lbs regular. The last fill up was 25 MPG.

If I was looking for a used truck on a budget, there are a lot of lower mileage trucks out there with less options... Chevys WT level trucks are usually on cars.com at a reasonable price... or they used to be anyways... They're often equipped with the v6, auto, many have roll up windows, rubber floors liners, lower level entertainment systems (radios), less deluxe interiors, but mechanically they're the same as the LS, LT, or LTZ level trucks.. UNFORTUNATLEY, most will be regular cabs, but you may locate a crew or extended cab version.

Good luck in your hunt. A truck is very handy to have for everything from hauling firewood to winter driving. I'll probably never be without a truck...

I stepped into the Ford dealer today, and ordered a new Maverick. XL trim, hybrid, co-pilot 360, and hitch receiver. Very basic.

It will be my first new vehicle, and twice the price of any vehicle I have ever bought before. I just got fed up with looking at junk on the used market, selling for $15k plus.

 

It's about time they start building smaller trucks again. Not everyone needs/wants one of those behemoths that are all over the roads now days. Dang, that it a nice price for a new truck, just a couple of thousand more than I paid for a brand new 2018 Focus, and less than I paid for a well-used 2014 Explorer XLT back in 2018, much less the somewhat used 2018 Explorer I just traded in for.

Hope the chip shortage doesn't delay the delivery!

Hard to say. When the chip shortage is over, we'll be swimming in chips. Buyers all over the industry have placed a crap-ton of orders for them. When that happens, then there may be too many.

Hybrid. In my mind it is a car replacement with a bonus bed, not a "real" truck. 4wd would have been nice for the winter, but I have gotten by so far without it, and I am mostly retired by now, so I opted for the more efficient version.
