Ever watch the show "Bizarre Foods"? I happened to click it on once and he was in some foreign country helping the locals hunt rats for eating. I changed the channel before they got to that point. Yuck!
Hey, I was in Central African Republic about 10 years ago and the ole boy that was the "guard" for the compound where we were would get pretty pumped up when he got a rat for dinner...shot with a lil ole bow/arrow...looked like a toy/tourist souvenir but it was extremely sharp and apparently pretty accurate in the right hands.
No way brother! Although we did eat "bush meat" a time or two...which is just something killed out in the bush...no idea what you are eating...so no telling what I did eat...some of it extremely tough too!
If it was tough probably hyena meat. Hope it was cooked enough though. Loaded with parasites. I dont mind being in the bush, but i aint eating the meat!
Oh don't worry, it was thoroughly burnt, I mean cooked... but the thing is it is extremely rude to not eat it when they are freely sharing this protein with you as a "gift" to you as their guests (and proud to do so) when they and their families are darn near starving...seriously. We packed peanut butter as a source of protein for the days when there was no "palatable" meat options...and I use the term palatable loosely!
Yes sir...a team from our church went over with a large hoop barn and a sea container full of tools and equipment to help support these folks Who we are - Water for Good many of the guys in our group have been there quite a few times over the years...unfortunately a few years after I was there a group of rebels staged a coup against the government and when they came through Bangui much of what was donated/constructed was stolen or destroyed...unfortunately its just a reality in 3rd world countries...it makes it almost impossible for these people to ever get ahead...harsh place to live, it was so sad to see all the need there is there...and to know that its like this in more places around the world than not. Its really shocking when you realize how well we have it here in the US...and when you realize how wealthy we are here, even "low income" people are wealthy by worldwide standards...you make more than $35k per year? You are in the top 1-3% (varies depending on who's stats you look at) wealthiest people on the planet!
We are fortunate to live in the greatest country on the planet. Too bad half the people don't realize or appreciate it. Makes me wanna.andbut I'm
Well said gentlemen. Too many don't realize how well they have it here. Now imma gonna zip it. Edit.. Or not.. brenndatomu I want to thank you for your selfless acts for others less fortunate.
Might a been "cooked" the same. There are times when I was in Korea and the Philippines that I didn't ask the origin of the protein. As long as it tasted good, no need for questions.
