Stargazer lilies are commanding attention as more pop open. One lighter in color than others Some closer to the house A friend reminds me every year that that the yard smells like a funeral parlor due to the strong scents of the lilies. A wider view of the yard from the top of the driveway. The tall spikes to the left of the tree, are the spent flower cones of cohosh. I'll be removing them in a day or so. They put on a good show for about a month. And a different angle of the RoS.
Hydrangea is doing well. The wildflower patch is taking a beating with the rain and wind here. The butterfly bush is about 7' tall. Vervain again. Bumblebees really like them. Native plant too.
This one was a gift from my MIL. I am always on the fence about removing it since it takes over. I read they can get cut down almost to the ground and be fine the next year. Found more ghost pipes where I did not expect them. All this rain must be helping. About 10 different clusters in this area.
I cut my butterfly bush back towards the end of February, every year. I leave about a foot of any stalks, and it comes back just as full.
Being such a nice day, I decided to sit in the screen house for a bit. With an early adult beverage. Looking around.... RoS to the right, in the shade Swinging to the right Changed flags From inside the screen house.
Blue vervain again. Obedient plant getting closer to flowering. Such a complex blossom. Pic of wildflowers from the front.
The RoS is probably at it's peak. Butterfly bush has lots of cones Pink bee balm in the back Coneflower and balloon flowers have responded well after a very wet July. And the stargazers continue to put on a show The stalk in that last picture, I counted 9 flowers and buds.
MikeInMa - your gardens are beautiful! Chud - love hydrangeas and yours is obviously doing quite well.
The heavy rains of yesterday, has the RoS all bent over. All the flowers catch the rain, then bend the thin, wispy branches over. I usually prune it back every 2-3 years. I guess fall is when it gets pruned.
