    Loki is a good dog
    :thumbs::thumbs:

    Looks like a spitting image of Holly.
    And of the same temperament as well.
    :cool:

    We're not sure if she's at 8 or 8+ whistlepigs, but she's gotten 3 this summer alone
    :thumbs:

    Only time I've been cross with her is when she tracked back the scent of a rabbit to the warren and got all the babies.
    :confused:

    Of course there's the neighbors chicken as well.
    :doh:

    :D

    She barters chucks for treats.

    I am surprised nobody remembered, I have posted this before. Best thing is Double Bubble gum. Keep several pieces around the hole, they eat it and cannot pass it.

    Well having lived on what was once a farm for 59 years I’ve seen my share of woodchucks. Around here they burrow into stone walls mostly not where cattle would step into the holes. My house has an 8’ concrete foundation. Don’t think they’re burrowing under that.
    Possums aren’t very filthy around here. Their fur may give that impression. One of the few animals that can’t get rabies and they eat upwards of 5000 ticks per year, each.
    Having chronic Lyme disease I’d gladly share my couch with a possum instead of living the rest of my life in the condition I’m in.

    Old friend of the family told us a story years back of using a steel trap to catch a woodchuck. They caught it...a big old male. Not by the legs or snout, but by the family jewels! OUCH!

    Guess he was backing out of the hole.
    :eek::eek:

    Always wise to see what's ahead of you.

    Bet that was either one mad chuck.. or it gave up out of sheer pain.

    Havahart trap. Single handle release. This is the best one if you happen to catch something you don't want to terminate....i.e. a skunk or something.....You can release it and be facing away from the door. With the 2 handed model you're right in the line of fire of attach.

    I've caught a racoon using this when I was trying to catch a groundhog....but I ended up giving it swimming lessons anyways and I guess I'm a bad teacher.

    I use the smaller traps and caught 31 chipmunks last year that were digging tunnels all over the place.

    Use watermelon, honey dew, apples, bananas, anything you have rotting away........And I'd secure it with heavy rocks around it and kind of hide it in a dark spot (as opposed to leaving it in the middle of the yard).

    Use a LARGE garbage can to give swimming lessons. Here in NY you have to bury or cremate immediately. In my town you cannot cremate so burial it is.

    [ I was kind of goofing- but I seriously do have a groundhog under my wood stack, and he really doesn't bother me. Happy to have him. As for my possum comment- they eat ticks and I'd let those ugly rats sleep in my living room if it went out and busted up a thousand ticks a day. Mind you- I'm a city slicker, so I don't really suffer the same downfalls as anyone else who's got them critters busting up their gardens. Anyhow- all in good fun, but I hope I didn't rub anyone wrong with my comment earlier- just good fun ]

    I get rid of all of them that I can if they are around the buildings. They are devastating dirt movers and will really tear things up around foundations. Love the dedicated dogs and the accompanying pictures. Ours works on eliminating them, too.[IMG][IMG]

    Loki has been averaging 3 woodchucks a year for the last 6 yrs. None so far this year. Not sure if its because he's thinned them down so far there fewer around or that he's 11 now and slowing down.
    Loki doesm't want to give up his prizes for anything. Once when I tried to bury one of his kills he grabbed it from me and took off.
