Any of you have experience with having a trailer to haul firewood that has sides? Steel mesh, sheet steel, wood? Or just leave it open. With it open, you do run the risk of pieces falling out and that can be a traffic hazard. A concern is do sides last or just get beat up and dented and look like crap? What would you buy?

Then again, if one wants to spend some bucks, could buy a dump trailer and those have steel sides but they must be thicker steel than what utility trailers have. A dump trailer seems like an awesome choice for firewood.

Now, speaking of dump trailers... if you had a load of firewood on there, could you back up to someone's utility trailer and dump it on there and not destroy their trailer, lol? That sure would be a fast load!

Maybe ask yourself which one of these guys you'd want to be behind on the highway.....?

As far as loading from one trailer to another, why not just take the trailer you want the firewood loaded on ultimately and handle the wood one less time???

This has been my most favorite purchase I've ever made. Has made my life WAY easier, and I've been using it to earn money to help offset the cost.

    Remember a couple of things.

    1. Your tow vehicle needs to be capable of whatever size trailer plus the load. My Silverado can do it, but a couple times I wished I had a 2500.
    2. PT (albeit still expensive) is cheaper than 4' steel sides. Plus if a machine makes a boo boo and catches the edge, wood is still cheaper/easier to fix than metal.
    3. Your deck is closer to the ground than you think. You won't be able to load anything from the trailer, which also means your dump pile is also longer, since you have to pull away to empty the bed.

Love the trailer. I had a 5x8 dump for roofing and wish I never sold it.

Here's a picture of mine from last year, loaded with wood. I use it mostly as a trash trailer. On the back tailgates, I fabricated and welded square tube extensions to match the height of the wood sideboards.

How many cords do you think a 7x14 dump trailer with 36” sides can fit? Split and hand tossed in the trailer.

Arithmetically, tossed, about 1.5 cords assuming it's 7x14x3 inside dimensions. An approximate answer, it could be a bit more.

I borrowed a dump trailer last year for a scrounge of rounds. I was worried about lifting them into it. I had no issues (I did have help with the heavier ones).
Unloading was almost magical compared to what I was use to. Lol.
My son said, we ever get a trailer, better be a dump trailer.
