Taking a lunch break. I'd like to finish what's left, we'll see. Need to check the radar.

And a sponge. You definitely need to keep the rain away from that stuff.

I think these rounds sat for around a month. Already circles of mold/rot where it was cut. At least it seasons quick.

I burned poplar almost exclusively for my first few years. It was my first jersey scrounge. An excavator that worked for my friend said he had a land clearing job and asked me if I wanted the logs. He said it was oak. I went on his word and didn't look at it. I said he could dump it in my driveway. I came home from work and there was about 16 cords worth of poplar logs, 20' long, 24" or more in diameter along with one hickory log. I learned. (I need go through the old photos to try and find pictures of that. It was an impressive pile of wood.)

Looks like you made a huge dent in the workload today! Do you separate your oak from the rest of the splits?

Nice pile of fresh split wood.

I keep a tarp handy on marginal weather days so I can cover the pile if needed.
Sure makes handling it easier after the rain.

Ok done that! Ended up clearing more brush and debris from all the storms over the past month. If the weather cooperates and I don't go fishing, I'll start stacking.

Yes, I keep my stacks 16' L x 6' H x 5'5" W = approx 3 cords (all oak) and then another cord mixed hardwoods. I dipped into this years oak, last season, so that only has 2.5 cords in it. Its amazing how much a stack looses its size during the drying process.

Absolutely! Oak is my main fuel. Anything other than oak is ss stuff or gets mixed in. This will be my first year with all oak. Its been a long weight.
Yea, alot of the bark came off the poplar. Man its some slippery chit!

Worry not! Doctor Savage is here to help. The simple solution is to stand that splitter up vertically. Had you done that earlier, you'd be done now! :D

Well, evidently you got through that without problems. I've known people who have burned poplar for years. I recall even one year when we burned poplar. We kept warm but I did have to get up a couple times during the night to add wood.
