Off from work this coming week. One of my intended jobs is to stack up 4 cords of 2 y.o. into the shed. Was down in the shed this afternoon movin some stuff around to get ready. Sure did feel good to be playin in the shed. Already have 6 cord in the shed and did a quick split and check on a couple of chunks. Sitting between 13 and 16% so all is good. Amazing how relaxing and peaceful it is to play with the firewood. Was happy as heck this past April to get away from it then, and here we are at the beginning of August and I am anxious as heck to get back to burnin. Anybody else feelin that?
I have about 2cord that needs stacked and have 0 desire to do it other than I'm tired of mowing around it.
Got a guy up the road who burns year round (wood boiler) and every once in a while I'll get that familiar whiff of woodsmoke. Love it. Makes me instantly think fall is coming, knowing I've got heat to keep our small home warm for the coming winters. Feels great. Wood burners get it... others wouldn't understand. I gotta get going on some rounds I've still got piled... get em split and stacked. Other stuff keeps gettin in the way...
I know the feeling Rotti, I get the same feeling when I move 2 cords to the covered porch in the fall. I look forward to the smell of the leaves and the crisp cool air along with it. I enjoy the fall more than any other season.
I've been splitting and stacking with the cooler July that we have had, but I have very little desire to start burning yet other than in the pit out back. I'd like to see a nice hot finish to the summer so I can do more than feed chemicals to the pool and the bride and I have a trip to the beach coming up.
I'll have a lot of work to do next week when I get home from this wedding. Have a trailer load to split/stack, then Monday afternoon the tree service is supposed come remove a big Bradford Pear that I'll cut up, split, and stack. I've only worked 4 days in the last three plus weeks with all the vacation I've taken but unfortunately it's back to the regular grind as well. On the bright side my stacks will be growing substantially!!
This winter's wood has been in the shed for a while, 15-16 is getting it's final bit of drying done, and 16-17 is in the works. All these projections are totally predicated on my hope that I'll use a little less wood with the new stove. Otherwise, who the heck knows. I'm at least ready for this year and next.
Yep. Even a whiff of somebody's burning brush pile will trigger thoughts of autumn leaves and hot wood stove. This burn season should be great with 3+year white oak and 2-year white ash and a new I.S. stove.
Yeah heheh, ain't THAT right though HoneyFuzz. I can't figure out how some of these hoarders are 5+ years ahead on their firewood. Man, wouldn't that be great!
Got the trailer cleaned off split and stacked when I got home. I haven't been doing this very long and I always think what I have will add up to more than it does when stacked - don't have the eye for that yet. Oh well... Just have to go find more wood.. Anybody know what the dark stuff is?
