I brought my 290 out to play. It hadn't been run in 10 months or so, and fired right up with old gas.

Was really enjoying that saw with the 16" bar. Much lighter than the 25" bar combo that I had gotten used to on the 441. On smaller stuff, I still love this saw.

Anyhow...was cutting up an old picnic table when I inevitably hit a metal bracket while not paying attention. Needless to say the chain needs time on the sharpener. Makes me mad too...was cutting great immediately before that. My other 16" chains weren't with me, so I had to shut down for the day. :headbang:

It's really nice btw to put the 16" chain on a bar compared to a 25". Almost effortless!

The 441 might be getting a really small bar for noodling and smaller stuff. I am in the minority on here, but I love the Farm Boss. It gets a bad rep as anemic and weak, but it does have it's virtues, and I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon. :p

The 16" bar on your 290 will mount right up to the 441.

What size bar are you looking for?

If I can find the bracket and it didn't make it's way into the fire, I'll post a pic. Took a pretty good bite out of it.

Really? That's good news. The chain size is different though. Does the same bar rail work with different chains? .325 versus the .375?

16" is a great size for little stuff. Keeps the weight down, quick to sharpen, and fast to swap chains.

Nope. Never mind. If you have .325 on the 290, then it won't work. The rail tip won't match up for a 3/8".

But, you can buy a 16" in 3/8" and then change your 290 over to a 3/8" drum and/or rim sprocket? That's pretty cheap. If it has a rim already, it's less than $8.

Call me crazy but I'd buy a .325 9 pin rim for the 441 and run that 16" bar and chain from the 290 on it just for chits and giggles.

That sounds fun MM to run the .325 on the 441!

I swapped my near off my 390 to my 650 but its only a 20". Be cool to have a light saber 16" for fun!!:D

Does that increase chain speed? That picnic table was very weathered and had no finish on it, so there was no black smoke.

You sure there was no arsenic in it from treated wood?

No but maybe a bit from less drag..it just dosent put as much drag on the saw from having a shorter bar and less cutters cape able of being in the wood.

Chain speed is set by the saw engine rotation and the sprocket. The chain will go the speed on each bar cause the saw is going to turn X RPM regardless of the bar length.

    Your body your lungs.

I am pretty lax with some stuff..like exposer to dust and exhaust or used oil. But things that can deffinitly poison or kill you not so much.

That said some plastic or a small treated cutoff has made it to my burn pile before but not usually.

Your not getting the point I guess?

It's a picnic table. A very small amount of wood.

When compared to a house, or another building that may have a lot of pressure treated wood (why I said a wrap around porch ). Numerous people downwind of those types of fires and can do little to nothing about it.

And, not all picnic tables are treated lumber. Most sold around me are just regular lumber.

Anyway, enough highjackin.. You wanna talk Arsenic? Start a thread. :)
