Saturday my neighbor and I dropped a couple Honey Locust trees. I did use the 32" bar for the larger of the two. Several other smaller Sugar Maple and Ironwood were right in the way so they ended up as fire wood. We got 3 16' saw logs and 2 10' saw logs for some trailer decking, porch decking, and fence posts.

These had been girdled a few years ago.

Second one I switched to the 25" bar.

This one was leaning some away from the camera so it got a Humbolt notch and a plunge cut for the felling cut. The video has me sneaking up on the hinge after checking it both sides then backing out of the holding wood. I dropped it right on the stump of the first one we cut.

All in all it was a fun day and we ended up with some saw logs and a BUNCH of firewood for the boys to haul up to the processing area.

    Nice logs.

Looks like you've had some rain too.

Yes, most of the HL in that part of the woods was girdled 4 years ago. As others have mentioned, they are kind of a fast growing "weed" tree and our forester wanted them pretty much eliminated, but I don't really want to eradicate them all.

Yes, we've been getting it off and on, but today it's brutal hot and humid out. I'm still over at one of the processing areas at least trying to get some logs / crooks cut up and up on pallets to get them off the ground.

Even when it's dry for days, there are places in the woods where puddles will hold water for way longer than you would think.
