Things are coming to a big slow down right now. Our tractor has suddenly developed some major hydraulic issue and it screams under any load on the forks. Can’t get a guy to come look at it until Tuesday. I have some neighbors who each want two cords of rounds so I started working on that this morning and I must say, cutting from a pile or on the ground is miserable compared to cutting logs laying on forks! As far as cutting logs for me and my helpers to split, I will have to cut where the logs lay and then load into my pickup to move em to the splitter which I’m not looking forward to. I will mostly be working on logs easy enough to lift once cut to 16”. Going to be rough until I get the tractor back up and running. Here’s a pic of some oak I cut this morning. Going to load and haul out tomorrow if we don’t get too much rain tonight.
Man, that really stinks. I know how much that will slow you down. We would come to a halt to, if our tractor broke down. Hope it's something simple to fix.
Hoping it’s a quick fix too but man this is making so much more work for me. Oh well, keep on keeping on!
Here’s one load going out. Somewhere around 11,000-12,000 pounds. That got the blood flowing this morning!
Might wanna post a thread about it here...bunch of experience and knowledge about such things around these parts...
jrider impressive as always I just did a quick read through the thread. Hope you get the tractor back in action soon. You've got some time left to make up for a little bit of lost time.
You have a customer that wants whole rounds? Our newest customer wants big pieces too. Some my hunny could hardly stack...
Yes, I have a couple guys who love to split their wood but don’t have the time or equipment to get their own.
With the tractor down I figured it would be a great time to cut and split the little bit of cherry and hickory I have as they will be kept separate. I had put the logs in two different t piles out of the way as I came across them. Yesterday I started cutting and today I finished . Have about 1-1.25 cords of each. Also, here’s a pic of the current oak pile growing by my small splitter. Pile is up to a little under 40’ long now.
He initially thought the starter was getting hung up with the fly wheel but he has since discovered the front of the tractor is pulling apart from the rear. With further investigation, he found two of the bolts that hold the front and rear together have been sheared off and there was a gap which was throwing everything off. I am waiting to hear back from a buddy to see if I can borrow his trailer to drive it the hour to the mechanics shop. So in the meantime it’s keep cutting where the logs are and driving the rounds to where the split pile is. Ugh!
Yep, that's bad news for sure. Can you beg borrow or rent another machine? I've got a couple extras, but it's a long drive.
