He has a house in MA so I'll pass on the word that there are some unstacked splits in CT that need stacking. Knowing him, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually went down to help you. Haven't had a chance to start processing anything yet. I moved all that red oak to another spot so I would have room to maneuver the tractor around (getting kind of crowded back there) and so I can get to the large pile of rounds. Been working on getting my raised garden beds finished and then hopefully I'll be able to get back to processing firewood.
Those look way better than ours. Ours only stand up because we have pallets on the ends... My hunny stacked this shed Stacked hickory in this shed 8ft high
That is a nice tractor and grapple. We looked at the EA wicked grapples... That is some really nice oak logs. Great score.
We did something very similar before we got our grapple. In fact, we had 2 hooks welded on the top frame of the grapple, so we can use the same set-up for logs that are too big for the grapple. This log was 39"×32"×73"
That little Kubota is a real workhorse. This was a 45-46" white oak, I think we cut them 4 1/2' long. It had been downa couple years...heart was still wet though.
Finally got around to bucking the large pieces of red oak from my scrounge back in early June. Thankful for the 500i and the tractor! Nice pile of rounds and there will definitely be some good BTUs in a few years. Now the fun part of splitting!
I see a crooked piece of wood in your stack. jk everything is still perfect. I love cutting big wood, it makes the cutting part last longer.
That purple stain looks like an old hippie may have smoked some funky stuff and parked his V.W bus too close to that oak back in '67! Watch out!
Luckily I only hit one piece of metal while bucking the oak. Not sure what it was as there was no visible residue (other than the stain) but the saw definitely cut through something. Whatever it was, it was old (although after reading you post I swear I hear heard In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida playing in the background while I was bucking the rounds...so maybe there was some purple kush or grandaddy purple left over in the tree from back in the 60's ).
