Hello Fellow Firewood hoarders, After this winter I am wanting to start buying loads of logs for my firewood operation from whomever will sell them to me. Anyone done this before? Id like to hear about other individuals experiences, good or bad.... was it worth it? How much did you get charged? Any feedback helps! Thanks everyone!
Pulp.. This was headed to the mill last year before it blue up. $100 a cord. It being allot of small stuff was great with me . I been in better shape..
If you will take anything, look at chip drop ( getchipdrop.com or something like that). I got ~6 cu. yards of wood chips for 60 bucks tip. They do logs too and I will absolutely get another order. But, I have to disperse my chips first...
Thoughts to consider: Clean? Skidded wood can be dirtier than forwarder wood. Species? Aspen/Poplar is considered softwood in this region. No softwood is acceptable. Rotted centers? A few, ok, but not a truckload. Diameter? Goldilocks wood brings $10 per cord more. For a reason. Trucker’s willingness to place the wood where and how you want it placed? This is a material handling business, and poor placement is money directly out of your pocket.
Have you tried hooking up with tree services? Lots of times they are glad to get rid of logs for free rather than pay to dispose of them or bring them home. If you have room for them to drop wood all the better. Even if you pay them a small fee for primo wood its worth it.
With these services, I dont know why I would harvest my own lot moving forward. Yes for dead trees, or that black locust grove but other than that, a small fee to have everything delivered, ready to be cut and split? Sounds pretty good to me!
There are a few people in my area that are tree trimmers, and I am definitely going to be hitting them up next year. Right now I still have a huge pile to get through.... but after that its GAME ON !
well an update on this whole ordering wood idea.... we just had some very serious weather come through and knock down enough trees to keep me busy for about a year lol
Scary stuff. Was it a tornado? Saw video on the weather channel his morning. Mother nature giveth, CBC taketh away!
