    So...just picked up a husky 77 that looks like it was left out (rusty bar and chain) and is pretty dirty. Pulled over, and seems to have good compression. Guy I got it from knew nothing about it, took it in on trade. I will be tearing it down some soon, but have never heard anything about this model. Checked Acres site and it lists an A77 (1968) model and an L77 (1974), both show 77cc and same carb. Tag says "made in Yugoslavia"...anyone know about these, and are they any good?

    No pics yet...sprayed penetrant oil on the muffler nuts and will try to get those off Sat...always try looking at the piston before much tear down.

    Started breaking down the 77...don't think the oil pump cap is supposed to look like this!! Piston looks good...haven't put the compression tester on yet but seems good when pulling over. Don't know if I can find that cap (everywhere notes NLA) and would need the worm gear also (gear part looks ok, but the tabs that interface with the clutch drum look rough)...anyone know of NOS or used parts available?     Obviously it is a 77 L model...and man is it dirty!

    Update...found the oil pump dust cover (used) on Chainsawr site...listed as one from a 65L, but was the same P/N...getting it cleaned up and will post pics...keeping my fingers crossed it will fire!

    I was thinking the same thing...no way to run it without that cover. It was run quite a bit after it got damaged though, lots of build up behind it...eventually I think it spun the metal cup there, and that melted the plastic. BTW..cleaned up the bar, and realized it is a 14" - 3/8 pitch...seems like a short bar for such a powerful saw.

    OK...so I have a question....how to clean out the gas tank without taking it apart. I finally got around to fuel lines/filter, and the tank is coated with crap that is flaking off. I thought about trying to scrape everything out, but wanted to see if anyone has used a solvent to clean tanks.

    I've used hot water and simple green/purple power with good success. Multiple flushes then one with straight gas and let it dry. Just use caution with shaking the hot liquid. I vent the cap a couple times during the process.

    Thanks...I found a couple of procedures online, such as a combination of Stabil, Seafoam, and straight gas...let it soak, and drop in some BB's and shake, which I am trying now. The tank is metal, and part of the body and I really don't want to break it all down yet. It may be a long, repeated process, as I don't know how long it sat with fuel, and by the looks of the amount of residue it was probably run oil-rich.
