I finally got around to installing our new front door. It took 7 weeks to come in and the weather was perfect today to open up the front of the house lol. I had to pull the outer trim off in order to install the door. I'll have to modify it a little as it's a little too tall.
Thats a really nice looking door.. Like the glass. Bet its way better to see out now. You did a good job getting it in there.
Thanks! It cost a friggin small fortune , but it was one of the mrs wishes throughout our addition. She wanted "the perfect front door". You know what they say..... The hardest part about installing new stuff in old houses is making it fit. I swear they overbuilt everything back in the day but it was always strange measurements.
Very nice And yes, I think they price custom doors by the ounce! If I ever had to replace our front door with an identical one, I have no doubt it would be multiple thousands of $$$...2" thick solid wood, arched top, with some fancy high security latch/deadbolt combo deal...all original to the (1940) house no doubt.
Thanks! Yea she's right every once in a while CoachSchaller it's actually a therma tru fiberglass door. It gets really humid here and I've dealt with warping wood doors before . And i wasn't really worried about the security aspect of a steel door since it was mostly glass anyway. Plus there's large windows all along the front of the house. If someone wants in, they'll get in.
We installed a Pella fiberglass door about 10 years ago. It’s been great. The door faded some and I matched the paint and used Benjamin Moore, that’s held up better than the factory paint job. The door does face due south and the sun is brutal on it.
Yup I have 3 of those fiber classic doors one with leaded glass sidelights at $3500 in 1999. Add in the stain kits at $80 per door. Just replaced one of the frames with a PVC frame last summer for $550. Great doors but they hurt the back pocket. Make sure you keep that painted up and weather proof those frames (if wood) love to rot even though they call them rot resistant.
Jack Straw and tree killer good hear your doors have held up well! Ours faces south west and is protected from most of the elements by a screened porch. It only gets about an hr of direct sunlight as the sun sets over the trees and never gets wet. I'm optimistic that this door will last for many years
Thanks!!!! I have seen some beautiful doors - including yours - that look a lot like wood, but you don't have the same upkeep as wood.
