We have been cutting in that area for a bit. There is some oak noodles under there somewhere...lol...the mound is all pecan...
WOW now you even wash your firewood! I am not worthy. Looks like someone had a nail gun on that log. Too bad you found more! Same around here though. Certain species host certain types of lichens/ moss etc.
I knew it had some nails in it, they said it had a playhouse in it one time. Just didn't think they would be that high up...kids must have been really bored

Well, we finished CSS all the pecan we had...this trailer load and the 3 rounds on the right We have 1.25+ cords waiting on the BBQ man, Mr. Jackson. We bucked and noodled the 30"+ main trunk with the XS362 w/ 25"bar and old chain. I knew it had some nails in it. Had a couple close calls I could see the heads of some bigger nails too. I was able to pull this many out Turned out some beautiful wood. While we were dodging rain showers, we did some saw maintenance in the shed. I decided to cut another slot in the saw tree. A few minutes later an imposter jumped up there......my hunny said something about Father's Day......
Those were some close calls. Cant get much closer! Saw tree looks great. I take it you like the Echo? Top handles are fun as youve learned. How's the finger healing. I see room at the bottom. Just sayin'
I thought about putting a slot down there...lol...then the Husky 55 would get jealous and crawl out of her case. Also got the 029BB in another case... I think a ported 500i or 661 would balance it out better... It healed nicely, I must be a good Dr...lol It is still TENDER, if I bump it...
Miz Carol caught me cutting and sampling a piece of pecan pie after we got home the other night... And I wore that shirt proudly. Got it when we were there in 2019...
Haven't had time to do much on the woodyard......been working on a master bath remodel...... But did get a chance to cut a little here and there... A customer from last year called and wanted to a load to get ahead... We cut up up the rest of the hickory logs we had, got it split and loaded Then added some white oak to the mix... Had to add one of the big boys to finish the load... I used the XS029BB for this load. I tried out the Archer chain I got for Christmas, I was impressed, cut a cord load before needing file touch-up. Loaded and ready for delivery dumped next to his wood rack...happy
Got a message from my cousin across the creek from us, the power company had taken down 2 smaller oaks on the right-of-way. We could have them... Made a nice little load...even got a little PO/PI vines as a bonus...
I just ordered some Archer chain for my MS250. I had always kept semi-chisel on that saw but after converting all my chains on the 362 over to square filed, I'm finding it hard to reach for the MS250 with the ssslooooowwwww chain... So I ordered full chisel with the intent to square file them so it cuts a little faster. I've gotten spoiled with how fast the bigger saw cuts and since it's only a few pounds more than the smaller saw, it's hard to reach for it. The Archer chain is much less expensive than the Stihl chains I normally use, but I thought I would give it a try and see how it holds up. Are you square filing the Archer chain you tried or is it the standard round file at this point?
It's full chisel, round filed. I have a grinder. I have a few square ground chains, but it takes me to long to sharpen them. The semi chisel will work the best on dirty work though. Cutting stumps off, really dirty logs... I just round ground one of my square chains, it got beat up cutting a big pecan tree. Wouldn't cut after it got dinged... After grinding Haven't tried it out yet. It goes on the 28" bar/MS461... Got a big oak to test it on in a couple weeks...
This was the new chain, only cut a small log before the video. These hickory logs were exactly 7 months since they were dropped. They were 18-20" dia. Same saw/chain finishing up the load on a big white oak, still haven't filed it, cut 1 cord on it.
The full chisel Archer chain showed up in the mailbox today. I took them and the MS250 with me to the farmer's market this afternoon and got two of the new chains converted over to square filed in between customer's and old friends stopping by. I was able to do some cutting under the light bar this evening after it got dark and that chain puts the 250 back into the rotation. I even tried one of the ones I didn't convert yet and it was pretty aggressive right out of the box. I cut half a cord with one of the chains and it's still pretty sharp and hasn't stretched at all yet. It seems to be good chain so far. I haven't gotten into any "surprises" yet though to really test just how tough it is. About half of what I cut up was Wild Cherry with some pretty tough bark and all of it was skidded with dirt / mud imbedded in the bark many places. I guess I will probably not be using the semi-chisel much anymore. Even if the full chisel does dull a little quicker, I can file a chain quick enough to make up the time spent knawing through wood with a semi-chisel, or at least it seems like it. Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me, but the full chisel square filed sure does seem way faster than the semi-chisel. I'm sure many (most) of you already figured that out, but I'm a slow learner sometimes and I just have to work through things and figure it out on my own sometimes.
