    Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

Looking for anyone's 2 cents on the best gas log splitter I can fit -- and lift with help -- into the back of a 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser (with the door closed). Price is less of an issue than power and portability. The Champion 7 or 9 ton look promising, but would love any strong opinions. Thanks!

I can't provide much insight as I only have experience with my Black Diamond 27T (which I would NOT attempt to put in any SUV). However, when I bought it, I took a set of car ramps to load it into my truck. The guys at the box store were thrilled when I pulled them out. That's something I would HIGHLY recommend if you planning on moving it frequently.

A good friend has asked me to help him deal with 200 downed oaks at his cabin in northern Wisconsin, and his part of the project is purchasing a splitter and getting it to the site. I am the cutting guy :) He has no hitch and no trailer.

    Welcome to FHC

Not sure I can help much. I know while back I was looking at the below, I am pretty sure the top comes off, might be able to piece it into the back of an SUV.

    20 ton 212cc Log Splitter

Ok .. we think different and that’s ok.
I would tell him pick one he wants put it my trailer since I was going there anyway; to cut. Bring some oak home!!

is there power at cabin? If so an electric splitter might be easier. Or $200 for a trailer hitch

Cannot help with one that will fit in SUV. No experience there..

I'm not familiar with types of oak in N Wisconsin, but you probably want to consider a splitter with some kick.
A small splitter will have you noodling a lot of knots and gnarlies.:saw::saw::saw:
New you can break it down and maybe fit in pieces. My 03 Expedition hauled a lotta stuff in the back.
Or tell your buddy to get a pickup.:smoke:

This looks like a great option. Drive it over in a box, assemble, split. Thanks ReelFaster !

In northern Wisconsin, it's almost certainly red oak, although there could be some white, but with the sandy soil, it will be red almost without a doubt.

Rent a truck at a rental place close to where you buy the splitter.

Depending where he is, there may be a Menards that rents both the truck and sells the splitter.

Well I am not sure there is such a thing.
200 Red Oaks is quite the task , you are going to need a decent splitter to take care of this. Anything I see is going to be heavy so getting it in the truck isn't going to be easy to say the least.
The only thing I can think of is maybe buying a splitter and putting together on site. This way you can load-unload it in pieces.
I did buy a Rugged-Split and this is how it was delivered to me , still quite a bit of work though.

Easiest and most fuel efficient way " Fiskars X27 " , then only the cost of beer has to be taken into consideration.

NP, and I believe that particular splitter is a two way so might speed up things a bit. Best of luck :stacker:

It is a two way. Just remember to get hydraulic fluid and oil and gas for the engine.;)

Fairly certain Buzzsaw Brad will fit in the back of a SUV. I’d go that route.

I like mine but as you see I run it up on car ramps.. I get a bunch of rounds around it and sit on a low chair. Works fine for me. I split just 6 cord with it last year. The price was $650 total at Tractor supply last year. Didnt want to spend allot on one. Havent used it this year but hopefully it will start up well. Oh.. Its easy to move also and Im glad I have it.
