    We used to have an emu. A friend raised ostriches. Interesting fact, if it is dry/drought, their eggs won't be fertile next spring, (their population control versus feed availability). So during the drought of '88 our friend installed overhead sprinkler lines in his barn to fool them into staying fertile. That is a young bird, their knees hinge backwards compared to ours. See the bird "kicking" towards the lady? An adult bird would have gutted her. Their middle toe nail, have seen them slice through cowhide welding aprons. Always work these birds from the rear, grab a wing in each hand and steer them. They can't kick backwards. She is luckier than she knows.
