I’ve been whittling away at my neighbors place after he took down a several trees. Some are big and not manageable without some noodling or hand splitting on site (poor access so no splitter). Focused on the more manageable sized red maple this afternoon. Still this wood was fairly big and the rough access made for a workout.

I can cherry-pick for sure. Once that easy wood is gone, there’s a big ash tree that is calling my name. I’ll probably break out the splitting wedge for that stuff.
Nice! Red maple and white ash are 2 really easy woods for splitting and it is wood like these which makes splitting by hand fun.
I love the way red maple burns and the coals it creates. Burns hot and fast and is an absolute pleasure to split by hand. It has that nice, thick, dense *thud* sound when it splits.
Some good looking firewood for sure. That wood looks like it would just pop apart on a hydraulic splitter.
Only time I had red maple it was really stringy and tough to split. City tree, though but it dried fast and I loved burning it
