So I've carried gas, oil, a rag, water, a few small tools, and wedges, in a back pack. This saves me from walking back to the truck just to fuel. I don't (but should) carry a hatchet...no idea how to secure it so I can remove it one handed. The wedges are accessible without taking the bag off. What d'yall carry tools wise, and how do you carry it all, when you head for the woods? Sca
No matter how many tools I carry with me to the worksite, it never fails that the one tool I need is always back at my garage.
Lately a milk crate. 1 gal gas, a quart of bar oil, a file, (sometimes) a spare chain, a scrench, wedges, maybe a bottle of water, chalk and a sixteen inch stick or two. A milk crate can be a little bit awkward to carry very far but it fits on/in a vehicle rather well. Everything stays in that milk crate as well when it is put away.
I use a milk crate as well, but I'm seldom far from the vehicle. Sent from my SM-G930VL using Tapatalk
I too use a wire milk crate for tools, gas and oil. It is not difficult to make a sheath for carrying a hatchet and make it so you can carry it on your belt. I've seen only a couple that were made to sling over the shoulder but that would seem to get in the way too much. Do a search for hatchet or axe sheaths for ideas on making one. You can even cut up some old boot leather for making if you want to be frugal or creative.
Depends! I usually have a machine, so I’ll put the tools in a loader bucket or in a carry all or trailer. If it’s a small outing I’ll put them in the 4 wheel wagon. chainsaw trailer 2.JPG - Click to see more photos
Typically I'm not far from the truck or trailer...mainly because I don't like hauling rounds farther then needed, so the vehicle stays close. This is the first score where 80 feet of walking was necessary. Parking is limited in order to get off the road, so I parked in a safe spot, and walked in for the cutting portion of the job. I have a tool box on the truck, so everything stays there, but have used a crate while working on the tailgate.
I almost started a new thread. And then remembered this one. Ive added to my 'get-up' or 'rig' that which I take with me in the woods. I still have the backpack for suel and oil etc, but the other day I needed wedges and a hammer. So I assembled a belt with a few items I wish to have handy. Wedges, scrench, tape measure, hatchet. Not sure i need the tourniquet, but it weighs nothing and the truck might be too far away the moment I (or someone else) needs it. Solciting ideas for other items to keep handy. Sca
I am always on my quad. I keep my gloves, saw, gas, oil, scrench, skidding chain, 2 in 1 sharpeners, wedges, pickeroon, tape measure, grease crayon, log tongs, pruning scissors, channel locks, small adjustable wrench...some on the rear rack/meat crates. Some on the front rack some in the quad trunk. I grab my music/ear muffs, a drink another pair of gloves and my cutting buddy/body guard as I'm heading out. Always take my fone (for emergencies) and ID/wallet in case the coroner needs to identify my body if i
Yup, ID and phone for the same reason. Although the wallet contents got sweat soaked a lot last summer....found out which cards were cheap, which ones were real. The peavey stays in the truck, the back pack does too, unless I'm on a cutting marathon, like last summer, about 5 hours at a time. Good idea carrying a drink....i think I carried elctrolyte drink in a 64oz. Camelback at one point. That worked well. Good idea on the grease crayon....I should try marking my cuts out. Sca
I don't carry much because I'm never that far from my vehicle. I have a wedge holder on my belt that also has a tourniquet strapped on the loop. I keep a scrench in the pouch. Cell phone in my front pocket along with a wallet. Canteen if I'm going to be away from the vehicle. I carry the saw, jug of fuel/bar oil and wedge pounder/axe. Its a lot to carry so I'd also like to see what people do for carrying the axe on their person.
I like the backpack for the bulk of that...i worked a cold day last May, and wore the pack all couple hours I was cutting. The belt is for immediate/quick access stuffola. My hatchet is eastwing. I wear my wallet around my neck...used to make them out of old jeans material. Now I wear a Trayvax. Not bad. I always wear riggers (wrangler). Cargo pants. Cell in pocket wont last doing that work....another pouch to add. Incidentally the holders I pictured are for handheld radios. Sca
My crap tends to stay in the cab of the truck or bed as I use it. I've hauled lots of wood out of backyards, but those days are past now, I hope. Wallet in pocket and phone is either in pocket or cab of the truck.
