Had this limb break off today, been meaning to fell the tree anyways, but been putting it off due to power line proximity. My question now is do i go ahead and drop it at the base to save the other one? Or, can i make a clean cut below where it broke off and trim off some of the lower shoots in an attempt to save it? Believe its an ash, but not 100% confident. Thanks for the help.

I would inspect it closely for Ash borer activity then go from there. If there is borer activity you can either try to treat the other one or take it down. I would probably take it off about 2’-3’ above the ground if there is no borer activity.

Knotch on falling side, bore cut carefully straight out the back till she goes. like said above, if there’s sign of borer, you may as well drop them both or see who can treat in your area. Sadly that’s a losing battle imho

Cut it off and hopefully no ash borer will hit the other one. If no borer, save what ash you can save. No fancy cutting needs to be done on that tree as there is not much left of it. Just cut it.

Sometimes ash will send new shoots after you cut a tree but I've never had any amount to much.

I would leave as is if you wish to save it. Ive seen ash do the same here. They usually die.
