A few bags of mulch, and some water, and I'm done with this bed for a few months There's some transplanting needed, but that can wait until the fall.
We are just starting to get leaves on the trees. The last couple of days the trees have really responded to the warmth.
Not much happening here. 6 out of 7 bare root beach plums leafed out. Two wildflower patches are growing nicely, no color yet. The field grass patch has columbine blossoming. The foxglove and lupines did not show up. Not sure what happened there.
A question for you gardeners. I bought a bag of red onion sets. For plant spacing the bag says 1"(green) 2" (dry). What does it mean green or dry? On the videos I watched most people are spacing 4"apart.
I'm no expert in growing onions, but I think the "green" and "dry" are referring as to how they will be used. Green onions (or onion greens) are the parts above the soil. For that close of spacing, they are probably red pearls and not the larger red onions.
Poly-culture bed with asparagus, strawberries, dill and lettuce. This is both a perennial, as well as a self-seeding bed. I let the lettuce go to seed and it plants itself when it is done each year. , The asparagus ferns are getting pretty high already, but crowns are still pushing out new ones. Garlic and strawberries are growing very vigorously.
Yellow roses are opening. Rhubarb below Anyone know what this is? They are flowering all around the region New phone cam. Not too happy with the pictures. There's probably some settings I need to learn about.
Fourth one down looks like cherry blossoms Mike. Nice yellow roses too. I just cleaned up around our two yellow roses. They too a beating last winter. Gave them a deep soaking g and sprayed for bugs as some leaves were getting eaten. Maybe they will look better this year. I am thinking about getting a small plastic tank for my yard cart. Carrying watering cans around is getting tedious. Running hoses out is a pain. Beach plum #7 sprouted finally. Columbine in the field patch. Honey suckle, invasive but under control. Hauled some composted horse manure to some bony areas in the yard and planted one more wildflower patch along the house. I've been outside since 8am and am a little toasted.
